During a live broadcast on V Live on June 8, a fan asked Jeongyeon if her neck is alright. She responded that part of the reason she’d turned on a live broadcast was to talk about this, and she explained that she hadn’t spoken about it because she hates it when their fans ONCE see her in pain. However, she knew they’d realized something was wrong with her neck as she’d been wearing pain relief patches.

“While we were filming the ‘MORE & MORE‘ music video, I felt a numbness that went all the way to my ear,” she said. “So I thought I’d better go to the hospital again — I went there a few times in the past and they’d told me everything was okay.” She went to a specialist hospital this time, and they told her that she had a herniated disc in her neck.

“We found this out a week before the comeback,” she said, explaining that she’d had a procedure done. “To elaborate, I was in the hospital too and so I really wasn’t able to practice for this comeback. I could hardly practice at all.”

“I really hated the thought of showing ONCE an imperfect performance,” she said. “You understand how I feel, right? So after I discussed with the company, we asked the networks for their understanding and talked to them about not filming fan cams for me.” When artists perform on music shows, networks sometimes film “fan cam” videos that focus on individual members.

“That’s why there weren’t any fan cams for me, you guys,” she said. She shared that she’d felt very sorry towards both the fans and network staff when she saw people blaming the networks.

“I’m doing a lot better now,” she added. “I went to the hospital this morning and got a shot. So you don’t need to worry about me, for real. I’m working hard to get better.”

There was indeed some controversy amongst fans about there not being fancams of her for the More&More performances.... This explains. I hope she's doing better!

This is really bothering me that JYPE just could’ve announced this in the beginning. They didn’t because they didn’t want to take responsibility. This ‘learned exhausting choreo in 2 days’ is nothing to brag about. They know how kpop fans are, they noticed their favorite amongst the group wasn’t getting fancams, they’re ignorant if they’d think that slide by. It shouldn’t be on Jeongyeon to say it after fans got upset at the idea she was being ignored.

But also this is on viewers too. Jeongyeon worried her injury would be used to call her weak, lazy, etc. An anti doesn’t need ammo but they’ll narrow down on anything an idol doesn’t excel at. So not only is she physically hurt, she’d receive people hammering on her for not performing to their liking.

Finally, I mentioned this with the dance practice post but the girls are getting injured more often because if the more difficult choreo, and I’m sure cramming in the choreography lessons are playing a part. Sorry for my long winded ranting, Jeongyeon, feel better beautiful! I hope she recovers fully.

She said she didn't want anyone to know at first so as to not worry fans. Personally tho I agree with everything you said, not having any fancams for her was bound to raise eyebrows in wonder and make fans worry. Jype should have explained that to her if she was really the one not wanting to announce it. But they most probably didn't want it out cuz fans would be made at them for making her perform with a herniated disc.

Yep!!! I think it’s a situation where fans would be upset regardless, but they should’ve been honest from the start. JYPE didn’t want to hear it from fans rightfully getting upset that they have a member with a serious injury performing.
Plus Jeongyeon might feel some guilt but she shouldn’t feel that way, we just want her to be healthy

This whole concept of apologizing for worrying fans pisses me off so much. "I'm sorry I got sick", "I'm sorry I was crying", "I'm sorry I looked uncomfortable", 'I'm sorry someone was fucking touchy and it was obvious how mad I was'.. etc etc. When is it gonna stop? Why can't they be humans? It's so unhealthy.

She's not the one who should be feeling guilty it's the ones making her perform with an injury like hers.

Okay first of all, JYP, WHY ARE YOU LETTING HER PERFORM A DIFFICULT CHOREO WITH A HERNIATED DISC IN HER NECK??? Holy shit
Even if they really needed her to be on the comeback performance, how hard can it be to release a statement about it ???? I'm surprised because they handled Mina's anxiety well, I remember a statement saying that Mina would be on stage only if her mental health allowed it, and even if she was previously announced to perform, she could decide to skip a performance until last minute if needed. They could have easily written a bullshit PR statement saying that Jeongyeon is hurt physically so she'll perform in a minimal way - not all performances based on how she feels/without focus of fancams/etc. Fans would have understood. But no, she has to perform AND THEN get on VLIVE to tell the fans herself ?????????

Because continually aggravating a herniated. disc. in. her. neck. will absolutely cause no problems now or in the future, & there’s no way that dancing a complicated choreography with a herniated disc in her neck could potentially cause her to become paralyzed... I feel for her; herniated discs are agonizing.

okay so I've recently suffered a herniated disc (not in my neck, but my lower back), and I too got a shot for it, and I too pushed myself too hard after it happened (was moving countries at the start of the pandemic, had to get shit done and fast)
