Boys Over Flowers is one of the biggest Korean drama hits of our time, sweeping ratings and awards across Asia in 2009 and 2010. This Korean take on the popular Japanese manga of the same name, tackles complex issues involving outcasts, socio-economic disparity, family, love, and friendship. Jan Di is an average girl whose family owns a dry cleaning store located near the luxurious and well known Shin Hwa High School. After saving a boy from jumping off the roof of Shin Hwa High School, Jan Di is admitted into the school on a swimming scholarship. At school, Jan Di tries to avoid confrontation with the four richest and most spoiled boys known as the F4, because she knows what happens to those that stand against them. However, when Jan Di's friend, Oh Min Ji, accidentally gets ice cream on the leader of the F4's shoes, she's forced to declare war on the leader of the F4, Goo Joon Pyo. What will happen though, when she falls in love with someone from the F4 and Goo Joon Pyo starts feeling something for her too? Will the love triangle disrupt F4 and change their lives forever? Get ready for addictive drama, romance and comedy at it best.

Date: 2020-05-05 06:09 pm (UTC)I had to stop episode 5 multiple times. It was so hard to watch. Junpyo has always been a little freakin brat oh my god. And I don’t know if it was makeup, but Minji’s face looked so beat up after those slaps.
WHY DID THOSE GIRLS GET ON THAT PLANE?!? Like what the fuck? Where is the common sense?
For 5 episodes I was hoping that Jihoo and Jandi would suck faces and Junpyo would see it and I am so happy it finally happened lol.

Date: 2020-05-05 07:19 pm (UTC)I'm sick of Goo Jun Pyo showing off his wealth. The New Caledonia part was too much. Also I couldn't look at the French girls, it was so awkward.
And seriously, how come a strong girl like Jan Di lets him do whatever he wants and say she's his girlfriend ? At that time, there were a lot of tomboy female leads. They were all fighting at the beginning but in the end they were all weak. On that aspect I prefer the main characters now. They are more "average" but they can stand for themselves. Also it seems that male leads are less abusive in recent dramas, even if they are still spoiled kids.
Other than that, Lee Min Ho was so handsome! His face now is more "perfect" but he had so much charisma back then.
I'm already at episode 8.

Date: 2020-05-05 10:43 pm (UTC)My favorite part about this show was the child actors, all of them were super cute. Especially the girl who played Min Ji
Also one of my favorite comedy tropes is when someone opens a door, looks at the person behind it a few seconds, and then closes the door without saying anything. It makes me chuckle pretty much every single time it's used, no matter the context.
The brown-green-dress they bought for Jan Di is hideous.
The girls were just more or less kidnapped to an island holiday abroad but do they even have passports etc? Could they just leave the country with no heads-up?
Ugh the whole "you'll lose something important to you as a woman" part, idk if the fortune teller lady meant Jan Di's "innocence"/virginity but it was definitely strongly implied and that just rubs me the wrong way.
Ep 5 was probably the point where Yi Jung and Ga Eul became my only endgame, I was already completely done with the GJP/GJD/YJH love triangle since it was obvious how it was going to end and the 3 of them were more or less unbearable.
Jun Pyo bailing on his own is such a douchebag move no matter how pissed off he might be. HE was the one who dragged Jan Di and Ga Eul to New Caledonia, what if the other F4 guys wouldn't have gone with them (or what if they were assholes), there would've been no way for them to get back home.
The funniest thing in ep 6 was the random piece of chalk at the staircase, how and why did it end up there? I need a backstory

Date: 2020-05-06 10:35 am (UTC)The FL is so damn bad. The way it's written and directed too. She only has four expressions: dumb, angry, disgusted, sad, and all to the extreme.
Why did they get on that plane?? Why does she say nothing when he proclaims she's his gf? And, honestly, what does he see in her when she looks so dumb all the time? And is her family literally whoring her out? I used to say not so very good things about Meteor Garden, but after watching BOF I'm appreciating MG so much omg (except the horrific last episodes of course)
