Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, let’s go back to the 3rd week of February, 2010.

#3 Girls’ Generation “Oh!”
Personally, not my favorite song from SNSD, but most definitely my favorite era. They’re so damn cute! Cute styling and cute choreography and I still love it so much! The album and the song itself were big hits, making it one of the best selling songs of the year. Here is their Music Core stage, from exactly 10 years and 1 day ago. Brb, putting my hair into a side pony.

#2 2NE1 “Follow Me”
This song was released for a new Samsung phone promotion, and would later be included in the group’s next album due to the song’s success. I don’t think they promoted this song on the music shows, so here’s their song on the group’s New Evolution tour in 2012. It was during the “I Love You” era, hence Dara’s hair. Look how cute Bommie is! I’d forgotten all about that outfit!

#1 Kara “Lupin”
I knew the moment this came out that it would be my favorite Kara song. And although it’s had some tough competition over the years (hello “Pandora”), this remains my most favorite. I loved cutesy Kara, but this new darker, more grown up concept was a win for me too. Third time posting, so here’s a remix performance from one of the Gayo shows.

Honorable Mentions

#4 2AM “Can’t Let You Go Even If I Die”
This was the single off of their debut mini EP of the same name. This was a big hit for the group, giving them their first music show wins, as well as a bunch of nominations and wins at the year end awards. Not my favorite from the group, but oh my gosh such a recognizable 2AM song. I also love it when there’s fan chants during ballads lol.

#7 Untouchable featuring Narsha “Living In The Heart”
I didn’t think I would remember this song, but Narsha’s part sounds really familiar so idk anymore lol. This would be their highest charting song ever. The duo announced their breakup just a few months ago, but I know Sleepy is still active and has been releasing new music.

I hated Oh when it came out but now I've reconciled with it lol the styling was iconic
And yes, Lupin is the best Kara song

The Oh! Era stand outs so vividly in my memories. Good times for me, I remember the build up to the release of this really well too. Personally I do love this single and record ALOT.

Lupin is amazing, continious to be a great record.

wow i was around for all of these tracks and just looking at it KPOP used to be so campy

I miss the campy. Groups have to come off as cooler than they actually are now. Kpop in itself isn’t taken seriously so it wouldn’t hurt to lighten up lol

theyve probably gotten more 'mature' because of international attention

I think it's sort of had a resurgence - Momoland is the obvious choice, but Weki Meki, Saturday, fromis_9, Rocket Punch, are all groups that I can think of that either have clear camp steer or have concepts that clearly don't take themselves too seriously. I don't know boy groups well so I couldn't comment

I loved Oh! at the time. It was cute and fun eventhough the lyrics are horrible lol.
Also great timing, SM just added the Oh! and RDR album to Spotify this week!

I really don’t understand why SM can’t just upload their whole discography on Spotify

Just noticed that Miss A finally had some albums added after being neglected too on Spotify.

Final edit sorry - omg 2PM, Ladies Code and Brown Eyed Girls had tons of albums and songs added!!! What changed, that suddenly a bunch of discographies that weren’t included are now on there??? But this is great! I wonder if there’s any artists that had choppy playlists have their discographies finally added

I was so happy when Kill Bill finally was added last year, took them ages.

I remember coming home from work late and trying to learn the "Oh" choreography in my room. I actually managed to do it, but like that was clearly the height of my Kpop days lol.

Oh! is not one of my favourite tracks from the girls but I definitely do enjoy watching the performances. So many iconic moments from that era (pinching Jessica, Seohyun almost falling off, that ice skating rink performance)! The MV was also a great buildup to repackage.

Lupin and the 2AM song are iconic, and probably my first introductions to them

That top 3 is perfect!!! 😍

Oh! Is the song that got me into GG! And Lupin!!!

Lupin was EVERYTHING!!!

oh/rdr is one of the best repacks sm has ever produced tbh, i think the album is underrated too.

i always admired kara and soshi for their versatility. kara have so many amazing title tracks & lupin is iconic!

Girl groups and their iconic title tracks, I tell ya.

Also, I miss when their foundation actually matched their skin tone :/ it’s so jarring nowadays to see idols with a pale ghostly face, especially since they don’t even bother to cover their necks 😬

you raise a good point, i didn't even notice that back in the day all idols seemed much, much darker than they do now (so basically closer to their real skin tone). Kind of a bummer

yes you saw a lot more tanner idols back then and then pale paper white skin became all the trend, so now korean k-pop fans get defensive when you point out that they whitewash their idols and make them look like corpses. also they seem to use the blur tool even in video, so it makes it seem like idols have no pores or blemishes and makes them look less human too. nagl

I looooved can't let you go even if i die 10 years ago and i love it now. it's still one of my favourite songs.

And Lupin, such a classic <3

i still resent oh! for introducing the oppa worshipping concept but it seems like kpop is slowly ditching it. some of the snsd members seem to hate the lyrics of that song too.
Lupin is a masterpiece. I miss the melodramatic songs of groups like kara and t-ara

I was humming Cry Cry and Day By Day these days, those were so good

From: [identity profile] lizanka23.livejournal.com
yeah cry cry was so dramatic and day by day had that epic music video. all of them angsty with heavy eyeliner. i miss the heavy eyeliner tbh especially for girl groups. now they all have to look like high schoolers...

this was basically the first batch of iconic comebacks i followed, since i started being a kpop fan around july 2009.

i like every song here.

Oh oh oh oh! Oppa saranghae! The song was so catchy and so cute but so cringe. I had such a love/hate relationship with this era. Definitely not my fave song but I them but I can't say that it's not a bop lol XD

Ayo ayo ayo! 2010! Absolutely loved Lupin! This era was all around bomb, I loved everything about it! \o/

Wasn't Follow Me released when 2NE1 deuted back in 2010? o.O
