Super Junior's Kim Hee-chul talks about romance with Momo

K-pop band Super Junior's Kim Hee-chul has thanked fans for their support after his romance with TWICE's Japanese member Momo was revealed earlier this month.

During Tuesday's episode of singer Taeyeon's VLive channel "Petionista Taengoo," Kim, 38, denied reports they had dated for three years.

"To be honest, we didn't know each other back then," he said.

But Kim felt a swell of gratitude that came with a dose of guilt for not being forthcoming.

"When this issue came up, the public and my fans were saying 'it's OK. You have been going strong without getting into any scandals. We support you,' and this made me feel guilty in some sense," he said.

"I don't know if I deserve such overwhelming love that fans gave me ... I even thought I might not be the best fit to be a celebrity."

He disclosed that he even paused work on his solo album.

"The title of the song was 'Flower Petals' because my debut nickname was flower," he said. He feared such a flowery romantic album would give the wrong impression to audiences.

The latest K-pop couple confirmed earlier this month they were dating after denying a rumor last August.

Kim's agency SM Entertainment said: "They have been close acquaintances and started dating each other recently."

Kim debuted in 2005 as a Super Junior member. His wit and good looks have made him a star in reality shows including JTBC's popular "Knowing Bros."

Momo, 25, whose real name is Hirai Momo, joined TWICE through JYP Entertainment's K-pop audition show "Sixteen" in 2015.

What does he want us to believe, that they're "close senior-junior", or that they "didn't know each other before"? That he's "too old for any of the twice girls", or that he's only "a fan and has no affection beyond that"? Or maybe that this is "the only thing he's gonna say about the matter" but doesn't fail to bring up the news unprompted whenever he's able to.

I get that these fan relationships are what bring in the big bucks ("If I buy 30 albums and go to all the fan signs, oppa/unni will notice me!!!" - overly strong stereotype) but I just dislike it.

I don't even want a celebrity to tell me they love me. I'll take a "thanks for listening to my music/coming to the show".

yeah i agree that is a stereotype but those are the kind of fans that companies love, hooked line and sinker and they are fans for life. that's why companies always have such a lukewarm response to sasaengs. in Twice's case I think it's because he was seen so many times around them and threatened their lives directly and that's why JYP took action but if sasaengs just follow you around in a taxi or sneak into your dorm room companies don't care.

yeah i also think thank you for supporting my efforts and work and believing in me is a healthier way to show appreciation to fans rather than just saying i love you so much and you are my oxygen even though of course they could live without their fans but they would just not be in this line of work for example. i feel like popstars are more likely to talk about loving fans and more indie musicians will just thank fans for coming to shows and believing in what they create. i guess that obsession is how idols make their living...
