Every week I check out the charts for this day in the past and post the top three song. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, let’s look back on the 4th week of January, 2009. It’s ladies night tonight! Lovely vocals and strong bops!

#3 Lyn “Love…It’s All Lies”
Every time I see this song pop up, I look at the title and think “…yes. All lies”. But I’m not salty or anything, I swear. Second time posting so here’s her comeback stage. I love her dress (it looks like a good buffet dress), and those bangs are too heavy for me but it still makes me want to cut bangs for myself. That’s going to be my Friday night…giving myself bangs. NOT SALTY AT ALL.

#2 Yoon Mirae “Please Don’t Go”
Don’t know where this video is from, and I don’t care because she sounds great! I couldn’t find an MV or any other live stage for this song. It was released as a single and not a part of any album. She really looks very much the same, even now. Jordan had already been born when this song was released, if you want to feel old lol.

#1 Girls’ Generation “Gee”
This was the group’s big breakout song, the biggest selling song of the year, and would become one of the biggest songs of 2009. It’s not my most favorite from them, but I will listen and do the damn dance every single time lol. It’s just simply a perfect K-Pop song. Third time posting, so let’s see a recent (or semi recent) stage this time. Here they are in 2015, at their Phantasia Tour in Seoul. They all look lovely.

Honorable Mentions

#8 After School “AH!”
They were really playing into the whole “Pussycat Dolls of Korea” thing back then, weren’t they? I remember this debut pretty well, but I always incorrectly remember “Diva” coming first wtf. But one look at this stage and all the choreography came back. I’m doing it right now. Here is their debut stage, with a little bit of “Play Girlz” as an intro.

#9 Gavy NJ “Love Story”
I don’t know much about this song except it sounds good lol wtf. I don’t remember it at all. But it does sound like something I’ve heard before. Like, from them or Davichi. I did recognize a young Lee Soo Hyuk though! He’s staring in the MV with a young Park Min Young.

OH to live in a world where After School got to keep their urban edge sound/aesthetic. How the group ended is so different then how they began and while I wasn't really following kpop at the time outside of The Wonder Girls IIRC AS was banned from some music shows at the time for being too provocative?

this performance is my favorite tho -

The ENERGY is electric and lol at Kahi's earring casually popping off as the song began

Gee is the first kpop MV i watched and i was shook that there were so many people in one group, i was also hella confused as to why i thought yoona, seohyun and yuri were the same person lmao XD the song is a classic, forever a bop even though it's not my fave soshi song but i'll still jam to it.

AS deserved better! their debut made me a stan! ah still slaps to this day! \o/

My first Soshi MV was Gee too! And I found them during RDR era which I had so much difficulty recognising each member because the contrast was just different

usually i try to differentiate the members by their hair, but since they all changed their hairstyles, i was stumped lmao XD

RDR is what really made me a fan because it was such a concept change for them that i realized how versatile they were. but it was really around hoot tbh that i started full on stanning. if there is one thing i've noticed about soshi over the years is that they always try different concepts and they somehow pull them off.

just curious where the general public landed on Jessica/snsd?
i feel like she carried a lot more of their performances than she was given credit for and my interest waned quickly after she left so i never bothered in general
