On January 6, their agencies revealed the following official press release:

Hello.

This is Play M Entertainment, Yuehua Entertainment, TOP Media, OUI Entertainment, MBK Entertainment, Woollim Entertainment, DSP Media, Starship Entertainment, and Brand New Music.

The X1 members and each of the agencies negotiated under the condition of unanimous agreement, but we could not come to an agreement, so we have decided on their disbandment.

It's so surrealist. The week before they were saying both groups will resume activities and now this. So many empty promises.

They had a meeting earlier today and they just decided to disband in the matter of one hour because they couldn't find an agreement? After all x1 has achieved despite the controversy? What a waste.

I'm in shock.

I'm so worried for IZ*ONE now too. If they won't even keep their best selling record breaking male rookie group (who charted for 4 months and sold over half a million), I fear for my girls.

I read that izone are a different case because they already signed a contract with CJ. X1 didn't.

i haven't really been following any of this, but i read someone elsewhere say that izone will probably be ok bc their contract has already been signed, whereas x1 hadn't signed theirs. idk how true that is though

expected tbh, it's so extremely sad for the members though. i don't really know them, do they have a place/home to go back to? i only know one of the members is from victon, so at least he has a good place to go back to... but i feel really bad for them

Seungwoo is from Victon, Wooseok from Up10tion, and Seungyoun is from UNIQ but Uniq have basically been on hiatus since 2015 (the china ban) and each have their individual careers in Korea or China, so Seungyoun doesn't really has a group to return to. Hangyul debuted with IM but they never had a comeback, and most members left the agency, so yeah. Hopefully, the other members will debut in their respective companies' new boy groups. :/

i'm really sad about this. it's not like i ever was a real fan but they were really fun to watch - great choreo & sync, fun song and everyone actually seemed like they belong to one group. i was looking forward to their promotions. in the end mnet fucked over absolutely everyone. amazing.
as uniq fan i'm also upset because seungyoun is back to being jobless and irrelevant!

I really thought they had worked things out when CJ released the statement about "supporting X1 to resume activities", I guess I was fooled like anyone else. CJ was probably trying to pressure the individual agencies to support X1 through fan support, but it didn't work.
I hope the members have projects to come back too :( I only know about Woollim because I follow all their groups, there's a boy group debut planned soon so he probably be alright. But I'm not familiar enough with the line-up to know about the other members :(

I wonder what this will mean for IZONE. I really want them to release Bloomiz but they might run in a similar problem with the agencies... except they have signed their contracts already (which apparently wasn't the case with X1???) and it might be harder to get out of it

I know it's the usual with Produce groups but the fact that they released an album (and promoted it) without a contract in place is so strange. Are the boys going to get any of the money from those 600K sales?

BTW, IZ*ONE and CJ announced that they had their meeting today too and everyone's agreed to resume activities. So unlike X1, IZ*ONE is safe and staying around until the end of their contract.I guess the big difference between them and X1 is the fact that IZ*ONE already signed their contracts (while X1 hadn't yet) and also the length of it (1.5ish years vs 5 years).

I'm actually not shocked at all that they ended up disbanding. Like sure X1 had a large fandom but something like this so early in their career would stand to haunt them plus at this point surely some of their companies just think it's better off to debut these boys in their group while they can still leverage some popularity.

I feel tremendously bad for all of the boys because for a lot of them this could be their one or last chance. I wish them the best.

Imo they could have survived by letting those that want, leave and band the rest together and keep on going. They probably would have had a lot of criticism and hate thrown their way, but at least they would have made some money and keep on growing their fanbase for future solo careers. Boygroups don't need the general public to enjoy a comfortable success, just a dedicated and big enough fanbase that keep coming to their concerts and buy merch.

I feel like this is so devastating for the members and sad for their fans. I’m of the idea that they could have resumed activities since their fandom was so protective of them, I don’t think it would have affected them financially, but that is just my guess.

its prob for the best tbh their fandoms still big and dedicated and will likely follow the trainees they liked to their solos/own bgs and they'll be ok and won't have the scandal looming over their heads.

the agencies better capitalize while they can though its a bit emotionally manipulative to put something out right away with how devastated their fans are but that's probably the best way to ensure their artists success.

This is horrible news and nothing about this is fair. Whether they got in X1 fairly or not all 11 of them have worked hard only to have to disband. Screw MNet.

though I’m upset, most of the members have companies to go back to. Dongpyo joined PD101 with two other DSP trainees so he’ll be fine. Starship was planning to debut a new group this year anyway so Minhee and Hyeongjun will just be added. Woolim already announced their project group so Junho will fit right in, and Eunsang has the BNM trainees to debut with.

Since Seongwoo already debuted with Victon he can bring some popular back their along with Byungchan. And whether Wooseok goes back to Up10tion, debuts with Jinhyuk, or goes solo he’ll be fine.

I’m concerned about Yohan, Seungyoun (especially him wtf he has redebuted so many times), Hangyul, and Dohyun. Yohan was the only trainee Oui Ent brought to the show, and Mahiro and Jyunhao left after only being there for 4 months. Yuehua and MBK are terrible at management. I feel like they’re gonna rot in their company’s basements. :(

oui also picked up seokhwa from pdx, they have daehyeon from pd s2, and the 2 trainees in 1the9. also donghan ig? they could make a group around yohan and maybe donghan if he wanted to be in a group. him and yohan are good friends. but i have little faith in oui.

hangyul and dohyon should leave mbk asap.

Omg i was really sure they were resuming activities!!!! I am shocked beyond belief and sad as fuck. I know omona wasnt a fan of them but I loved flash and this group had some really talented people, some who were fucked left and right before pdx101. I feel sooo bad for hangyul and sungyoun especially. And up10tion has been tossed aside for that one member’s solo promotions, victon is doing better? idk how seungwoo anf wooseok will do bc of that but they can always go solo. Anyone who isnt going back to a group or a newly debuting bg is probably fucked :(((( they only had a debut and no cb, w1 had a lot longer to gain fans and traction. I hope it works out for them. I was really looking forward to their cb, they dance so well together and were really cohesive for how little time they had.

Extremely sad about this! Watched them since PDX101 and a huge fan. I like the fact that PD groups are able to achieve great results upon debut which is something that used to be exclusive to the big 3. I hope the members will be ok coz its not their fault and they all worked hard for their debut.
