Making this quick because it’s cold and rainy out and that’s an excuse to go home early and crawl into bed. Every week I check the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we’re going back 8 years to the 1st week of December, 2011. I started a new batch of posts a few days ago, and I hope you are ready for all the Christmas and winter ballads, Omona. Because we’re starting this week lol.


#3 T-ara “Cry Cry”
This was the group’s follow up to their big breakout “Roly Poly”, and would go to the top of the charts. There are a few music videos for this song, and this time let’s check out the ballad version. I don’t remember this version at all.

#2 Troublemaker “Troublemaker”
This was the duo’s debut. Since a great era for them, it was so successful, and would top the charts and become variety gold. They also looked so fab! I’m loving both of these outfits for the holidays. Why am I only finding out 8 years later that EXID’s LE wrote the lyrics? I had no idea! Get that royalty $$$ girl.

#1 IU “You And I”
I think I remember this era because of the styling, but I only remember bits of the song. Which is weird because this song would be at #1 for a few weeks, and the album, “Last Fantasy”, would sell millions digitally. But this is an IU black hole for me.

#4 Wonder Girls “Be My Baby”
This is my most favorite Wonder Girls song. Here’s a jazzy R&B remix for Gayo. I’m not into it lol. I like the original version better, it’s so bouncy and fun. I feel like JYP does a lot of R&B remixes for the year end shows. I can remember Miss A doing them too, and Twice did one for MAMA a few days ago.

#7 Infinite “White Confession (Lately)”
2011 was a good year for the group. They released their first full album and got their first music show wins. They also made their Japanese debut, where this cute MV was filmed. I don’t remember this song at all, which is not surprising because I don’t remember any Kpop Christmas songs anyhow.

Be My Baby immensely frustrated me because JYP gave Sohee lead on the verses and she just COULD NOT carry that live while Sunye & YeEun were relegated to the chorus. From what I heard it was less her not being up to par and more of the song just being too high for her and that's fair but it's still frustrating.

Lim at least only had the prechorus and - to her credit - was able to have a strong vocal live (that was what warmed me to her early, that even her vocals were stronger than Sohee's). Meanwhile, he goes Sohee straining to do so in both! Like when the preview was out I was certain that JYP only did this because she could handle it but he KNEW she didn't have the range!!

i like jimin, really i do, but every single time i hear his struggle vocals...i cringe so hard T_T yet i know he continues because someone somewhere is praising him on his 'vocal prowess' OTL i also wonder why he gets so many lines when he really is not the strongest vocalist in the group and some of the lines that he gets would have sounded better if done in a different range or by a different member. but i digress, you do you bang pd-nim! *shrugs*

I have no idea why JYP thought giving Sohee the lead verse was a good idea. She can hold a tune in her range but he made her sing in this high pitched voice and it always sounded bad.

She was the entirety of BOTH verses too!!

Like Sunye & YeEun should've gotten one each and then the prechorus should've had Sohee and Lim trading off with the chorus' staying the same. Yeah that's a lot of time for Sunye & Yeeun but let's not pretend we don't know who should and shouldn't be singing the most @JYP

Tbh I can never really enjoy any WG performance because of Sohee and her struggling vocals. You can see in her eyes that she's trying her best but she knows damn well that the high pitch isn't for her and doesn't sound good.

The only performance that I truly enjoy and love (and still remember even after all these years) is their Love You I Do cover, they all sound so great here, even Sohee

It's less that I dislike her so much as I dislike her vocal work/moments for most of the discography. I definitely feel bad about her never getting to sing in her range most of the time tho. The only era I truly think she clicked for me was 'Like this' but then again that's just a really fun era (well, unless you're Sunye & Yeeun's haircuts, oof)

Troublemaker's "Trouble Maker" is one of the most iconic kpop songs for me. My mood immediately picks up soon as I hear the whistle intro. Its been 8 years and its still my ringtone (there was a point I changed it to Growl but I went back to Trouble Maker lol) and they are still my favorite duo.

Peak troublemaker they never topped their debut song tbh and still years later it’s sooo good!
I loved that Be my baby remix lol I just rediscovered it on Spotify this week...they all looked so hot during that stage 😳

whilst i do like BMB, it isn't my fave WG song and as the comments before mentioned...them struggle vocals lol XD

i remember the haircuts in the cry cry era more than the song itself and that it had a ton of videos lmao
