yunho leads a new hallyu wave

U-know Yunho (real name Jung Yunho) is leading fans into a new Hally wave by encouraging them to donate across the borders.

Recently, one of U-know Yunho's Japanese fanclubs "Be With Yunho" did their own fundraising and made a trip to personally donate KRW$10,000,000 to South Korea's Social Welfare Organization. The local fans in Japan have also donated more than KRW$5,000,000 to the Haiti victims in Yunho's name.

The donations from international fans not only include Japan, but also those from China, Thailand, and all of Asia, which shows that Yunho's popularity can be felt throughout Asia.

Under Yunho's name, the fans in China donated supplies for students within Korea who come from poor backgrounds, and there were also various donation and volunteering activities that took place in Thailand. The donations and volunteering activities of the Korean fans are also such.

This year, on Yunho's birthday on the 6th, fans used his name to make various donations as a form of wishing him a happy birthday, and one of the fundraisers alone raised an amount of over KRW$40,000,000.

Jung Yunho's exemplary behaviour as an idol star is ongoing and not just a one-off occasion. The fandom culture is evolving into one where the fans follow their idols closely, and they do all they can to continue the warm, charitable acts of their idols and help those in need.

DBSK's U-Know YunHo(22) who had his birthday on the 6th rejected the presents his fans sent him.

U-Know YunHo who is doing activities in Japan came back to Korea to celebrate the New Years holiday, sent a word to his fanclub that he could not accept the gifts. The gifts his fans showed included a computer, notebook [could either be a regular notebook or laptop IDK which one they mean], synthesizer, digital camera, and an electric shaver among other things and gathered millions of won for them.

YunHo said "He was touched by the sincerity of the fans' aspiration. He was happy because he was able to feel how cherished he was" but then stated that "wouldn't it be better if the things the fans gathered with their loving hearts were given to others who needed a bigger helping hand. I think that if the presents could be distributed to those fostering their dreams under harder circumstances, (the fans') feelings will be used more nobly"

It was found out that U-Know YunHo had rejected his presents every year. The fanclub respects YunHo's wishes and plan to donate the gifts somewhere else.

On the one hand I'm really moved by these fans that do a lot of things for charity in their favorite idol's name, on the other hand I'm wondering why they can't just donate things on their own account.

I wouldn't say that the fans who donate are only doing it because of the idols.

I think the trend is more that fans used to show their love for idols by buying them things - now they're pooling together money and donating it to a good cause, instead. Idols like Yunho, who have rejected fans' gifts in the past or donated them, are encouraging them to spread their love outwards. That fans are able to do that is always good, I think.

The last time my heart swelled up like this with altruistic inspiration was after I read "Mountains Beyond Mountains," a book about Dr. Paul Farmer's work in Haiti for tuberculosis and his 'preferential option for the poor'. I love how Yunho's big heart and humanitarianism can be spread around the world through his fans. He and his fans never cease to impress me- a definite inspiration to be a more active humanitarian.
