Sephora opens first store in Korea

Sephora has opened its first store in Korea, where innovative beauty products and trends reign, the company said Wednesday.
At the grand opening event held at Parnas Mall in Samseong-dong, Seoul, Sephora Korea said it will strive to achieve double-digit growth in sales revenue over the next seven years, taking advantage of the growing interest in beauty specialist retailers.
The company also plans to open six other local stores and an official online store by 2020, as well as 13 additional stores by 2022.
The new flagship shop, which covers 547 square meters, features hundreds of cosmetics, skincare, and fragrance brands along with its own private label.
"What sets us apart from other beauty specialist retailers is that we offer a huge range of products unseen elsewhere, and with professional staff to help customers," Sephora Korea CEO Kim Dong-ju said during the launch event at Parnas Mall.
"We also deliver the pure joy of discovering and trying new products. For instance, we have a 15-minute Flash Makeover Complimentary service and Dyson hair experience zone at the store."
Sephora's arrival reflects customers' desire to access various types of beauty products in the same place and the growing market size of beauty specialist retailers.
"Through extensive market research for the last two to three years, we found out that Korean customers tend to search by items instead of brands," Kim said. "They are also savvy on loyalty programs, in terms of rewards."
Sales of beauty and drug products in the country came to 5.6 trillion won ($4.74 billion) in 2018, according to data compiled by Euromonitor International.
Most of the health and beauty stores here, are operated by conglomerates, like Shinsegae's Chicor, Lotte's LOHBs, CJ's Olive Young and Amorepacific's Aritaum.
Industry analysts expected that although the competition may intensify, Sephora will be able to gain competitiveness over local stores by introducing different product line ups.
"While Chicor is more focused on premium K-beauty brands, Sephora is expected to introduce more premium brands which are available to buy overseas, and foreign luxury cosmetic brands," said Jade Lee, an analyst at Euromonitor International Korea.
Sephora, part of the French luxury goods conglomerate LVMH, has nearly 3,000 stores worldwide. The beauty conglomerate has expanded aggressively in Asia, opening stores in Singapore, Thailand and India.

Date: 2019-10-23 11:23 pm (UTC)I’ve been overhauling on skincare and then buying makeup. I bought single eyeshadows from Colourpop because I’m so new to it but if Alissa Ashley says hooded eyes can do all of this I’m going to DO IT.
Skincare I’ve been falling in love with The Ordinary plus it’s inexpensive. It’s made my skin brighter and softer and I only have to use concealer really if I’m going out.

Date: 2019-10-24 01:10 am (UTC)I love looking at makeup but I don't wear them. I have issues with lipsticks they don't like my lips and its sad because its something that I really need since I have really pale lips since I was a kid.
I only do skincare. Loyal to Neutrogena hydroboost wash and toner, (it smells sooooo good) fine fairness serum. Then Innisfree jeju volcanic pore clay and cleansing foam plus my favorite no sebum mineral pack.

Date: 2019-10-24 08:43 am (UTC)I just bought the laneige lip sleeping mask to try out and the glow recipe watermelon mask. I started trying out I'mFrom products recently and their Mugwort mask is the stuff dreams are made of, I'm saving up for the full size. Their ginseng serum is on the way, can't ait to use it.
I've been using the Benton aloe BHA toner and it's nice but too gentle for the level of acne clearing I want,I think I'm going to switch to the Paula's Choice one soon.
Also I recently bought winged eyeliner stamp pens because I can't for the life of me figure out how to do cat eyes lol

Date: 2019-10-24 09:55 am (UTC)Recently I've been a bit more thoughtful on what makeup/skincare products I choose to spend money on, because for the last few months I felt I spent way too much money on pricey products that didn't really have a noticeable effect on my skin's health, despite the hype by YouTube "beauty gurus".
So right now I'm using just The Body Shop's Oils of Life sleep cream (which I've been using for a while now and it's honestly great) coupled with a few drops of Rosehip Oil to treat my face before bed. For daytime I've forgone the foundation and instead just kept my routine to the above sleep cream, Mizumi waterproof sunscreen, and loose powder; honestly I'm glad I don't have to worry about foundation melting off my nose during the day anymore. The only other thing I pay close attention to is eyeliner, and honestly, for my smudge-happy single lids, the waterproof liners from Lifeford and Etude House have been a blessing for my eyes and my wallet.

Date: 2019-10-24 07:15 pm (UTC)I just bought a bunch of stuff at the local Asian grocery store here that carries some lines.
I like Asian Beauty colour makeup because it’s always perfect for daily wear but the shade range for foundation is just pure colourist/ racism.
