It was revealed that Minty from “High School Rapper 2” had been lying about her age.

On October 10, Minty’s agency released an official statement regarding the truth about Minty. Minty appeared on Mnet’s program “High School Rapper 2” and was recently swept up in rumors stating that she produced the girl group GSA (Girls’ Alert) and that her actual age was 37.

Below is the full statement from Minty’s agency:
Hello, this is Minty’s agency.

Recently, Minty has been spending each day with a heavy heart due to the rumors surrounding her. Due to her fear of hurting her family and fans, she wanted to let this event pass by quietly. However, we decided that there was concern that this could cause even more grief to fans who trust and love Minty, so we’re releasing an accurate statement on the false rumors.

1. It is true that Minty is Sorina, Alpaca Production’s CEO and the producer of GSA. She has worked as a composer since a young age, and she started her company after receiving an investment offer. However, about two years ago, she entrusted the management of GSA to Roots Entertainment due to various issues and health problems, and she is currently running many companies in this method.

2. Currently, Minty is suffering from an eating disorder due to severe stress. Following support from her fans, she began to receive counseling beginning in October, but she is still unable to eat a regular meal.

3. Last year, Minty applied to “High School Rapper [2]” as a contestant born in the year 2002. At the time, Minty wanted to reveal her real age multiple times, but due to the internal situation and pressure, she had no choice but to stay silent. Minty was an unknown artist at the time, and it was a hopeless situation in which every opportunity was valuable. Minty has been suffering from the psychological burden of the situation everyday until now, and she’s currently receiving counseling.

4. Furthermore, Minty’s actual age is not 37, but 28 (26 in international reckoning). The misunderstanding about [Minty] being in her 30s seems to have occurred because she started producing since she was 24 (22 in international reckoning). This [rumor ] is clearly not true. Besides her age, every side of Minty has been genuine, and although the timing is different, everything in Minty’s lyrics comes from her own experience.

Finally, Minty will personally give her stance on the rumors again through a YouTube video at noon today (October 10 KST), and regardless of the truth, we deeply apologize for causing fans to worry.

As promised, Minty uploaded a video on YouTube to personally address the rumors surrounding her and apologized for hiding the truth. (OP note: the video has since the been deleted.)

From what i've been reading, she only auditioned for the show (which they showed in an ep), but didn't actually participate in the show. Here's her audition clip that went viral.

Omona, have you faked your age before?

I feel bad. One one hand, age shouldn’t be a restriction to realize your dreams -kpop’s penchant about being too old to debut is silly- but at the same time, participating on a show geared for high school kids also is unfair to them.

To answer your question, OP: Yes. I once pretended to be 15 to be able to pet puppies at an adoption event. I was 29.

petting puppies has to be the best possible reason to lie about your age, kudos to you

That is the most amazing reason. I wonder if the puppies secretly knew.

Lmaoo fair play for being able to fake being ten years younger. But nice fair on the youngsters since she’s most likely had years more of vocal training

I lie about my age when sales people stop me in the street to try sell me broadband or whatever. I’m 25 but can still get away with saying I’m 17.

As a 32 year old who gets mistaken for being 19-22 and is regularly carded at eating establishments I say good on you girl for passing as an 18 year old. It’s sad that age matters so much in the idol industry and once you reach a certain number you’re suddenly cold product. BEG coming back is getting me hype and I hope more 1st/2nd gen queens follow suit.

after seeing that audition video i'm glad she's older cuz that outfit/pose/overall sexy-aegyo image would be even more uncomfortable on an actual teenager. her rap was kinda impressive though, when she was on beat.

Wait. she's 26 and already running companies? wow.

Omona, have you faked your age before?
Does clicking i'm of age on ff.net count? lol
I've never faked my age but 2 years ago while traveling a guy at tourism center gave us ticket price for students to watch some performance. we're in our 30s lol. i mean, most of the time people think we're younger, and plus we're asians in western country, so yeah

you really have to set up a company if you're independant/freelance in media. especially if you want to get royalties and deal with contracts. and tbh imo most idols should have their own incorporated companies either before they even sign on or between contract renegotiation to give them more protections and keep their money in order.

Honestly, it's hard to tell the age of people who have had extensive plastic surgery sometimes. It makes people who are young seem a lot older but otherwise, it just makes people look distractingly alien-like to the point it's hard to read age unless there are obvious signs (hands, neck, etc.)

its rough out here for women in the industry. idt it was a good idea to audition and present herself as an 18 year old, especially when its for a show involving literal children, but outside of that context I get the strategy behind knocking some years off a womans age to boost their possible career opportunities. shouldn't have been on this show or 18 tho.

That's a new way of media playing but ok girl

I don't need to fake my age cause people still think I'm underage (I'm 27).

I really didn't like her audition thing because not only was it hard to understand what she was saying bc of the aegyo voice, but she kept going off beat and it sounded a mess

I don't THINK I've ever faked my age as far as I remember

I drank underage when I was 17 a couple of times (legal age is 18) but I didn't get carded. I have apparently looked 20 since I was 16.

this 26 year old grown ass woman, the CEO of her own company/ indirect manager of several other companies, decided to audition as an 18 year old and is now suffering from psychological burden? sis don't do dumb shit. i get that any opportunity is valuable but that really wasn't the solution.

i was 20 or 21 and at kew gardens, which has a little train tour, and i love train and bus tours. the price was £4 for over 16s and £2 for under 16s. i look VERY young for my age. the train conductor looked at me and said, "you're not yet 16 are you?" and i said no.......honestly probably the only time i've ever lied about my age. the train ride was very nice, and i didn't actually have the £4 to hand that i would have needed, so that was great.

people still think i'm 17 or 18. i am not even in my 20s anymore.
