Yeah... No, thank you.

What is JYPE doing with them?

I tried to give them a chance... I failed

JYP found the correct formula for girl groups but struggling a bit for the boy groups. But at least Stray Kids album sales is still good compared to other groups who had their debut around the same time.

Yeah, I was wondering how their album sales stack up against other boy groups? They’re not connecting to the general public so I hope at the very least, they have a solid fan base willing to buy albums.

They are doing 100k-150k in sales per album. Wich is good but not as good as it should be. I mean, Ateez sold 120k on their last album and they are rookies, and their company is not that big (is the company Block B set up for themselves)

I sometimes wonder how successful they’d be if they tried being more commercial. Sure, it’s nice that jype has given them free rein over their music, but I imagine the smart thing to do would have been making music that’s more accessible, at least for the first few years of their career.

Tbf that's what they did with GOT7, and their sales were similiar (even a bit worse) for their first 2 years. GOT7 ended up growing thanks to having international members (especially BamBam and Jackson who are stars in their countries). Idk if Stray Kids will be able to replicate their growth.

Ooh, good point. I guess I can sort of see Felix and Chan gaining a lot of popularity in Australia, but certainly not to the same extent as Jackson has in China or Bambam in Thailand. From the beginning, I feel like Got7 was primarily known for their foreign line tbh, and ia that skz doesn’t have that to fall back on.

:O Ateez sold 120k? holy crap, I knew they were doing well, but not that well. :o

That's what the gaon chart says 127k sales. Their two previous albums were like 50-60k, so I don't know what happened for that jump. They are doing 20k sales in first day for the current album, and that's almost double first day sales compared to EP.3. So they might even go higher this time around.

As mentioned above, they average 100k to 150k per album released which is decent but their numbers should be a lot better considering they are from JYP meaning there's budget for marketing and promotions.

So I compared numbers with NCT and found that the numbers were similar (talking about first two years album sales since they did not debut on the same year). NCT's album sales picked up last year so maybe after a few more months or early next year Stray Kids albums sales would be better.

For other boy groups (less than 3 years) like Astro, SF9, Pentagon...its around 20k to 60k per album.

I honestly see their career trajectory being quite similar to NCT’s tbh. As in: very experimental and often polarising music that doesn’t connect easily to anyone who isn’t a fan, more effort to appeal to international (particularly western) audiences due to lukewarm reception in SK, etc etc. but yeah, I hope their album sales improve over time as well.

That's a very good observation about their music. I'm one of those who can't get into Stray Kids music and since I don't usually follow JYP artists in varieties or their YT, I don't know their personalities as well so I don't have anything to hook me into the group. I watch their MVs and music show performances but I haven't found that song that I like from them.

NCT is a different story. They used to confuse me so much I gave up LMAO I still adore Ten, Johnny, Lucas and Doyoung. They are my favorite people in NCT.

Yeah, I briefly tried to get into NCT but to no avail. It’s just too confusing trying to keep up with all the members and ever-changing subunits. That being said, I really like Wayv! I’m so happy Ten has finally found a permanent group <3

I highkey love bopping to Side Effects and MIROH (they're pretty good workout music) but anything else just doesn't do it for me.

And this? It's a mess, if you ask me. I didn't like it one bit.

From: [identity profile] suggestivepeach.livejournal.com

Side effects is enjoyable simply because it’s so dramatic and ridiculous, and Miroh is a pretty good hype song! But neither of these are songs I’d actually listen to willingly in my spare time lol.

From: [identity profile] dallinferno.livejournal.com
Yeah neither would I, honestly. I only have them on my spotify workout list bc they're great for sit ups lol and it's nice to listen to them every now and then when they come on shuffle

I hated both songs at first but grew to love them lol. I sense the same with this one

It’s... not their worst release. I’m glad they’re releasing the music they want to release, and to my knowledge, they have complete creative control? But yeah, their music is made fun of by non-fans for a reason lol. I wish they’d release more playful, fun stuff like Awkward Silence. To this day, it’s the best thing they’ve ever released.

Yeah, basically 3racha writes/composes everything. Awkward Silence and Get Cool are really fun. I also loved Chronosaurus and almost everything in Clé 1. But they seem to fail to pick a good title/promoted track

I will never stop singing the praises of Awkward Silence! I fell in love with it upon first listen and it’s genuinely so cute. It’s so disheartening that they haven’t gone back to doing something like that. Get Cool was also not half bad.

Awkward Silence is such a cute bop!
I agree, that I wish they would go back to their more playful side.
Their fun dudes, I wish their music would showcase it... sorta like PENTAGON does.

i actually love a lot of their bsides but they just pick out the worst songs for their title tracks every time lol

this comeback slot could've been given to yubin smh

it wasn't THAT bad. I think it surpassed my expectations because I read the comments here first lol. It was typical boy group hip hap tryhardness that I've seen 1000X already. Won't listen again though.

I haven't enjoyed a song of theirs since District 9

one of their most uninspired releases imo. i hope the rest of the album is better than this!

I'm so confused lol, to me Stray Kids are on par with Ateez musically (similar energy, a lot of their sounds overlap) but the former is not as well received. Is it cause of negative association with jyp bgs?

Anyway I enjoyed this! After Side Effects it's nice to hear a more chill song, relatively speaking

They both get a lot of criticism for their title tracks (from people that are not stans). I personally follow Ateez more because I like their performance energy and their personalities. Although they are around the same age, for some reason to me Stray Kids feels more like kids. so I just couldn't get into them personally and their concept just doesn't fit them (only 3racha fits the kind of sound they do for their titles). While Ateez sells it more easily. i like when StrayKids does more fun oriented songs and their rock inspired songs.

Yeah I can see why ppl think their music and image are mismatched. it doesn't help that aside from Hyunjin they're all gnomes lol...
I still think Ateez are better regarded for the fact that they're from a smaller company and have the underdog theme, whereas ppl (esp K-fans) are not likely to trust jyp bgs regardless of music quality (a shame because their Clé series has been pretty great)

To think My Pace was their magnum opus...

I don't know why, but I love the noise these guys put out lol. I don't even like these kinds of beats but i have liked their last 3 releases.

Contrary to belief GOT7 makes good music. If you don't like the title tracks they have songs like Page, Teenager, Come On, I am Me, Sign, Prove It, 1 Degree, Time Out, Remember Me, Moon U, No One Else etc.. but I don't see what's wrong with You Are, Look, or Lullably either.

Idk much about Skz but Got7 have that fun group dynamic that a lot of people enjoy so I get why they have fans. They’re an entertaining bunch. And yeah I don’t really like a lot of their music but Look is SOLID and I will defend it and Lullaby to the death.

that's why i should ignore the teasers, always. i've hyped it up in my head so much and now... meh.

on the other hand, i didn't like MIROH at first either, so i'll give it time. their last 2 minis were absolutely pefect for me so i'm not giving up hope yet.

p.s. this song is better without the mv, haha
