Omona's Pick: 2019 3rd Quarter Kpop Favorites

September is about to end so we can now talk about our favorite Kpop releases during the third quarter of 2019 (July-September). Feel free to talk about your favorites including but not limited to:
- title songs or b-sides
- MV/visual concept
- live performances
- choreography
- etc.
You can rank them or just list them randomly. Maybe there are also releases from earlier in the year that you discovered belatedly or still enjoy until now. Discuss away!

Here are my personal favorites:

Baekhyun - UN Village
A great chill jam to unwind to. Check out the performances for the "rolling, rolling, rolling hills" move. From his mini album I also like Betcha.

NCT Dream - Boom
The song is an absolute bop but I also love the choreo and Jaemin's iconic "ice cream" line. 🍦 My other faves from their mini album: Best Friend, Bye My First.

Yukika - Cherries Jubiles (Acoustic Ver.)
The city pop version of this song didn't enamor me as much as Neon, but the acoustic version is lovely. The MV starts with the acoustic and then switches to city pop. I wish someone would make me a bento like that.

GFRIEND - Flower (Korean Ver.)
Their latest title track Fever is all right but I was waiting for this Korean version of their Japanese single because the original was not available for streaming in my country. The bass in the background is so good. Also I went to their concert in my city and had a lot of fun! The audience was a pretty equal mix of guys and girls which was nice.

Red Velvet - Umpah Umpah
Not as fantastic as a few other RV favorites of mine but the chorus did get stuck in my head for a while. From their latest mini album I also like Love Is The Way, and from the previous one I'm rediscovering Sunny Side Up, Milkshake and LP.

KARD - Dumb Litty
While making this list I misread the song as Dumb Kitty, lmao. I feel like this deserves as much hype as, say, BP songs?

Honorable mention:

SOLE - Same (feat. THAMA)
Her mini album was released late in Q2 and this b-side grabbed me belatedly after I watched this live performance. Probably my most favorite female voice right now.

I was so surprised at how good Baekhyun's solo album was. I understand he fought to have UN Village be his lead single but I can't help think some of the B-sides would've been better choices as the lead single.

Not technically a new track, but I've had AOA's cover/version of Mamamoo's Egotistic on repeat.

okay time for my very important opinions


title songs:

1. no - clc / this is my ultimate gym song lmao. everytime i get tired i put it on an keep going. the bass is so goooooooddddd.

2. me - clc / i love yeeun's rap

3. umpah umpah - red velvet / honestly one of my favorite rv songs. i just love the robotic "umpahpah umpahpah" that plays after the chorus/background.

4. picky picky - weki meki / the opening is great and so is the "i'm so picky-picky-picky" during the chorus.

mv/general aesthetic:

1. omg - fifth season / everything they do is dreamy and i love it

my fav recent release is saturday's BBYONG. they're an amazing nugu group and they deserve so much more attention. all three of their singles so far have been so catchy, their choreo is super fun and well executed, and their stylist(s) are doing an amazing job for this cb.

sunmi's lalalay was my fav from august. her music is so unique, full of pathos and listening to it just... fills me with... a feeling. i don't know what feeling it is but it's a powerful one.

i'm lukewarm on umpah umpah, it seems like a pretty standard "red" song from rv but i really enjoy the b-side jumpin'.

aoa's egotistic cover is one of the best things to happen in kpop this year and i'm so glad there's a studio version. they fucking bodied it.

This is definetly my favourite not only of this quarter but of the whole year:



NCT Dreams's Boom is a close second tho. And I've really liked Twice's Feel Special, CIX's Movie Star, The Rose's Red and Sunmi's Lalalay. Also, ATEEZ's Aurora (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wcM9Eq3UbI) wich was far better than both their double-titles.

I'm also loving SF9's RPM, even tho I didn't like it at first. Specially this performance:



Seventeen's new album is also great. The performances for Snap Shoot are so fun to watch.

Yes, hoe SF9 is the best that could have happened to all these pretty boys. Taeyang has been my bias since I first came across them but he was just so eyecatching during these promos. Too bad Rowoon wasn't there :((( Also, that everyone is looking like a snack in this performance and then there's Inseong with that akwardly cut hoodie makes me laugh.

I think I've just kind of been whelmed by this quarter. However, Here's my few;

First and foremost, this summer lacked actual summer songs, so if you haven't checked this one out yet, this is what we were waiting for all summer;



They performed recently at Open Concert (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4qd24hlgCM); due to the weather and Soyeon recovering from an ankle injury she didn't perform, which meant Elly got half her lines which is GREAT, she deserves more shine!


A nugu pickis 3YE - OOMM (Out Of My Mind) which is a weirdly sophisticated song to come from them when their debut was such a throwback, but they still have that early 2010's swagger and loudness. Hopefully they'll stop giving Yuji those damn braids soon.



Best debut was definitely Rocket Punch - Bim Bam Bum. It was a cute, peppy song with a slightly different structure and a fun video. The members mesh well together but still stand out onstage. I love good all-rounder so Suyun is automatically a fave.



I know the song itself was divisive but I love the styling in Itzy - Icy. The amount of trousers/playsuits/dungarees is just really pleasing to me especially when they have such high energy routines. Shoutout to Yuna's dungaree shorts, Lia's red/black plastic trousers and Yuna's giant red trousers.
