Rapper Cupcakke recently tweeted some comments about K-pop (and Chungha in particular). Previously in late 2017, Cupcakke made some thirst tweets about Jungkook and received backlash from BTS fans which included death threats.

Not long after making the tweets about Chungha, Cupcakke deleted her Twitter account and announced her retirement.

[Video description: A Twitter user replies to one of Cupcakke's tweets with a Chungha fancam. Cupcakke quotes the tweet and replies "Can you stop tweeting me the cheerleaders from bring it on, this isn't high school no more babygirl"

Another Twitter user replies to one of Cupcakke's tweets with a clip of Chungha dancing. Cupcakke quotes and replies "THEY CAN NOT DANCE FOR SHITT ‼ These the dances I do when I got to pee foh"

Another user replies with another Chungha fancam, Cupcakke replies "Who? Chungha? Are you asking me do I chew gum ???? I'm confused"

Cupcakke follows this with a tweet that says "KFLOP 😭"

Another user says "Girl delete they gon get you outta here 😭😭😭", Cupcakke replies "They fandom can suck a fart out my ass"

Lastly, Cupcakke tweets "AHAHAHAHA y'all BIG MAD 😍 MY POWER WHEW"

End video description.]

I totally understand her being turned off by K-pop and its fans after the BTS incident, and K-pop twitter's practice of replying to everything with fancams is just annoying. But I think mocking Chungha's name and belittling her dance skills/the skills of K-pop artists as a whole is racist and going too far. Considering everything else happening with Cupcakke right now it seems she may be going through a mental health crisis and I do hope she's okay.

Yiiiiikesssss like I was kinda on her side post JK incident, but nah girl. Youre asking for trouble with this. Kpop fans are a lil wild and can blow stuff outta proportion so deliberately antagonizing them is nagl

she's been thrown a lot of antiblackness/terrible shit by kpop fans but you can be soured on a fandom without slipping right into antiasian racism.

I definitely agree with this. Like I don’t blame her for not liking kpop fans but to come after another woman who has nothing to do with anything is pretty disrespectful.

On the other hand I really cannot stand the anti-blackness and racism that she gets from kpop fans but this still does not excuse her.

it doesn't seem like k-pop was the main reason she went off on twitter. it all started with her calling out camila for being racist, which she has a right to be angry about but then it deteriorated into her just calling everyone untalented and even calling a twitter user's makeup in their profile pic ugly, more like personal attacks to people who weren't even being mean to her. i hope she doesn't turn out like Azealia :/

she got into it with kpop twitter ages ago when she commented about BTS Jungkook being hot and their fans bombarded her. this is just a continuation of that back and forth along with the Camilla thing. she was getting death threats and racist slurs thrown at her for weeks by ARMY and kpop fans who took offense to her finding someone her own age hot.

ARMY is like Elf in my days of yore...I didn’t know about the groups in the beginning but definitely HEARD about the fandoms and they turn me off so much that I can’t ever get into the respective groups despite them having the occasional bops.

all she had to do was ignore or block them but instead she put her foot in her mouth

Music-wise I have no idea who she is but I remember the thirst tweet clusterfuck, I also read about the whole Camila Cabello-Shawn Mendes-Cupcakke mess a few days ago. I hope she takes some time off the grid and pulls through.

It can def get very annoying to browse through twitter and randomly run into a wall of fancams, personally I just scroll by. Twitter autoplays everything, but it's always muted so it's not too bothersome. No need to drag in people who have nothing to do with the situation and didn't ask for people to spread the videos in the first place...

not defending her actions, she was wrong for what she said about chungha. clearly something is wrong with her right now though.

I just think it's telling how quickly people dragged her, yet continue to defend the rampant anti-blackness in kpop/korean media. especially as it continues to suck black american culture dry and make billions off of it. just like the rest of these globally anti-black medias and industries out there. she was wrong, but she ain't get that same grace all these other idols be gettin. and sometimes their actions are a whole lot more severe and unapologetic.

poor chungha aint had nothing to do this whole situation lmao.

Wooo chile you took the words right outta my mouth!! This is exactly what I was thinking!

Also it seems like she has a new single coming out about draggin ppl so I think that was the concept. It looked like ppl were send her people to roast and thats what she was attempting to do...but i could be wrong about that though.

Same! But kpop fans will ruin her career before they end the ones of idols who've done blackface but they not ready for that conversation.

lol i had the same thought and also when ppl were dragging her for the Shawn/Camila thing (I agree with people that she shouldn't have mentioned Shawn's sexuality) but so little has been said about Camila's known and documented history of being racist towards her black 5H bandmates. Camila is getting pushed majorly by big record labels and the media, she has way more institutional support behind her than Cupcakke does.

Obviously Kpop stan twitter was doing their own share of racism, but acting the same way is never a good look. I mean, i fucking feel her bc I hate Kpop stans tbqfh, but this is still not a good way to respond.

Wat.

She later intimated in a devastating Instagram Live session that all these tweets were intended to attract attention before announcing her retirement. She told fans, "Recently, the past night and today, I just been sporadic and it's because I wanted to get as much attention as possible to let y'all know that I will no longer be doing music. And all of my music will be coming off of every platform."

Sure.

mess tbh

didn’t she make that ’chinese eyes’ tweet? did she ever apologize for that 🤔

Yes, she said she was informed on why that phrase was offensive and aplogizes because everyone knows she loves everyone!!! Here's the apology tweet https://twitter.com/CupcakKe_rapper/status/950221806509674496?s=19 (https://twitter.com/CupcakKe_rapper/status/950221806509674496?s=19)

The hate she receives is of course not good, and if she does have mental health issues I hope she gets the space to work through it.
It’s never easy facing slights, and the anti-“outside group” sentiments are indeed infuriating when they are all pitted against each other

I'm keeping the same energy K-pop stans have when groups do/say racist shit

It's just really unfortunate that it had to end up like this. If both sides are flinging racist bs then who is really doing the right thing? I hope she gets help if this is a mental break.

someone was saying she's been struggling with her mental health and had even been on suicide watch... obviously she's going through something but her being racist for no reason is just gross
