Kei has a lovely voice but the power wasn't there and Sixth's Sense's best parts have always been the rap break and chorus. Baby Soul sounded great.Jisoo and Mijoo suited it best.
G-(Idle) really suited the song.Soyeon should have left the bindi in the dressing room . Her,Minnie and Soojin were killer this week. Yuqi's part was so good, I love her voice

Date: 2019-09-19 03:19 pm (UTC)I’m gonna sound harsh but I didn’t really finish the other two performances. They still put in a lot of effort, I can recognize that! But idk all I can think when I watched is I’d rather watch the real thing. In the end of the day, they aren’t the Brown Eyed Girls or 2NE1. I still love both groups, don’t get me wrong!! But the senior groups they covered just had that special it factor I didn’t see in these covers.

Date: 2019-09-19 03:27 pm (UTC)i'm disappointed in gidle's performance of fire. frankly, there are better 2NE1 songs and it feels like they missed out on an opportunity to show a diff side of themselves. the performance was vocally meh, sloppy (minus the 2 main members) and reductive as hell considering what we've seen from them AND 2NE1 as a group.
lovelyz put on a MUCH better show from last week and i feel like the members who could bring it, def brought it. but they're still lackluster as hell as a group, especially on a BEG track AND one as strong as sixth sense. i do commend them for going REALLY far out their comfort zone and reaching for something impactful and different from their usually look/ sound.

The less said about g-idle the better I guess. I was expecting something special from them but it kinda fell flat, like there was nothing special. But miyeon and minnie are doing well and shining in the past 2 performances
My ranking would be aoa>omg>>lovelyz>G-idle>Mamamoo>bom

(Idk if that’s the right word lol) Id say what they performed in the first episode is more typical of their style. I hope since the group is getting older, their company will put out something like this! It would be nice progression in their style

lovelyz version of sixth sense was... something. why didnt they do an oh my girl song? they couldve done checkmate from their 5th season album? or maybe aing if they wanted to play it safe?

Which fell a little flat. Sixth Sense is one of my fav kpop song tho, so my expectations were probably a little high!!!

G-Idle did okay, but the arrangement was weird for me.
I guess because I had expectations of these two and they didn't quite meet them so in that sense OMG did the best, tho I didn't have much thoughts on their stage.

I don't mind G-Idle's performance at all - it was fun! - and while Lovelyz had some large vocal shoes to fill - and didn't - I think for them it was a really great performance. LOOK AT HOW NICE JIAE SOUNDS WHEN SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO SQUEAK! Also, Sujeong's haircut is EVERYTHING. I feel like I didn't see Jin at ALL tho

I don't know how to describe it, but both Fire and Sixth Sense carry a lot of "oomph" in their instrumentals and I felt that in this case, the remixes hindered the performances.

And last Lovelyz... What can I say. I appreciate the fact that they have those big ovaries to do a BEG song especially Sixth Sense. I'm pretty sure not even Mamamoo would have dare to touch that song, and I'm saying that because of vocals not trying start a fight or something. What I'm trying to say is that Sixth Sense is a hard song to do a cover not only for vocals but for the actitude and because it's FIERCE AS FUCK. And Lovelyz tried but they didn't get there. It's not bad perse but when u know the original.... Some girls looked really good tho. It was nice to see them in a very different concept also.
AOA wins this round. And I almost forgot how gorgeous and hot those girls were. Not gonna lie I miss Choa and Mina with them but...

Date: 2019-09-19 07:34 pm (UTC)(G)-idle were middling. Like I thought they did okay but not okay enough to be memorable. Also I hate Fire and wish they would have chosen something like I Love You or even the predictable I Am The Best.
Lovelyz had a large task and they got like 75% there. It wasn’t bad I was just waiting for a push into good. I think one issue is that Lovelyz are very standard K pop voices and then you have someone like Jea as the main vocalist of BEG. She isn’t perfect but her voice has character that lends itself to a song like this (granted the song was made with her in mind). Her singing style is also far more aggressive and these girls were not that. ALSO BOO FOR TRANSPOSING THE GAIN-NARSHA HIGH NOTE DOWN. I never completely agree that idols can and can’t do certain concepts because of their image, but this is a case where I agree in how Lovelyz were built. But this is what happens when you do tracks made for a more...niche...group. I don’t think think they would have had problems if they did like Sistar’s i Like That or Kara’s Pandora (songs that are more aggressive and “mature” but still made for a traditional idol group)

They could have done much better with a superior song like Missing You, for example, and show a different sound. Also, I like Soojin but some of her mannerisms are cringe lol
SS only showed that Lovelyz shouldn`t go too far from what they already do. Half the group doesn`t have the charisma to pull a sexy/strong concept.

Probably because Yooa is injured as she is a very strong performer who has been elevating OMG's performance level. I also don't think the kungfu/chinese/warrior concept suits the song but it's my personal taste I guess.

g-idle could have tried another song. considering their style, they should have nailed it but it wasnt that. also, culture appropriation.

The vocal perfs for me just fell really flat, especially because the singers of those groups have such full-bodied voices. The covers just came out sounding like covers imo. I've shit a ton on Mamamoo's Good Luck perf but at least it sounded like their own messy song. I did think OMG's Ryu Sujeong (opening and closing) fit the song, didn't feel forced, and did really well in her parts though.

But having seen Bom's reaction, it still made me happy that (G)IDLE decided to cover "Fire". Also, Soojin was on fire! Miyeon's voice fits the song perfectly.

I thought the take on the song was a great idea but it needed more dynamic or more layers to the instrumental and the backing track was really bad quality. Yuqi should have had Bom's parts with her fuller voice and Miyeon some verses. The weird native ?? I'm guessing ?? meets street vibes backup dancer kit was unnecessary as was the war cry and bindis but it's g idle doing a 2ne1 cover so I am disappointed but not surprised.
Lovelyz...the member either had the right voice for the song or the right stage presence and there was nearly no in between. Jisoo particularly was bodying the performance but as soon as she opened her mouth it ruined it. The choral arrangement was a really cool idea but again the arrangement was so empty? I know the high note is hard but I kind of thought that whistle note would be right in their repetoire with the voice tones in the group. Baby Soul(?) seemed completely out of place. I appreciated Sujeong's (?) very accurate Gain vocal impression. Mijoo also suited the concept in style but not in voice. Kei suited the performance in voice but not in style. Still, props to them for going big rather than going home.
