On August 30, reports emerged that the program will be wrapping up soon. A source from the show confirmed the news and explained, “‘Mafia Game in Prison’ will end on September 7 with its 26th episode.”

(The naver article mentions that the continued 1%+ ratings are the reason the show ended.)

tvN is a cable channel, so in general, their ratings will be lower in comparison to public channels like sbs or kbs (although tvN is killing it in the drama department, frequently getting higher ratings than public channels). That said, their expectations were probably primarily a viewers growth. Ratings in the higher 1%range are not bad, but compared to their hit variety show Amazing Saturday that gets 3-4% ratings, it pales and especially since the viewership wasn't growing the way Amazing Saturday's did at the beginning. They've never reached 2% expect for their pilot episode, whereas Amazing Saturday hit the 2%-mark several times in the first half year they aired.

That is interesting to see.

I watched a few episodes, for the idols I like, but tbh some of the sections were overly long and got a bit boring, and I found Hyeongdon too much of a bully to enjoy. I think it would have been better without him, and they should have switched up some of the games (based on what I saw)

So in a way I am kind of not surprised.

aww man, I actually liked the show, even though it was a little long and repetitive at times. the idol and senior interactions were great though. I was living for JB Yena sibling-ish vibe

He seems pretty good at creating that comfy vibe with females, on LoTJ Solbin seemed comfy with him quickly, and I feel like I've seen it a few other places but can't remember. Hopefully it means I can put him in the not creep category ...

I never managed to watch this as I think the mafia game is dumb, boring, and overly long, but I kept intending too, just to get to see idols interacting with each other.

hopefully we'll get a few more variety shows where idols interact with each other.
