X1’s Cha Junho Under Fire For Forgetting To Lip-Sync During Their Debut Showcase

During X1‘s performance of “It’s Okay” at their debut showcase, Cha Junho was caught not lip-syncing during his part of the song.

Fans were originally under the impression that it was live due to the audio quality being so good, only to be surprised that it wasn’t. People are upset since it’s a ballad song with no dancing, which means it wouldn’t be that hard to sing live in the first place. Many people are making fun of the group by calling their showcase a “lip-sync concert”.

Also, people note how Kim Wooseok (who sang before him) and Han Seungwoo (who sang after) were able to lip sync properly yet Cha Junho couldn’t.

"You didn’t even practice lip-syncing. What can you do?"

Don't a lot of new debuts lip-sync because their companies worry that out of nervousness they will mess it up and sound bad, and sounding nervous/out of tune will help kill the group's momentum...

yeah. I don't have a problem with lip syncing, not at all. But if you're going to lip sync why even pretend you're singing live by using a pre recorded track? That's just plain deceptive. If you want to give the feeling of live vocals, just mumble along with a really loud MR or something

exactly. or they could do what a lot of artists who dance really intense choreo do. during some parts where they don't dance that much they can sing live and then for some parts they don't sing at all because they're dancing more intensely and let the back track take over. Rain has done this and plenty of other artists. i'd much prefer that, so we can get a more natural performance and more of an artist-audience connection than trying to count the steps in your head and remember to lipsynch well enough

My first reaction was that I'm so tired of artists lip syncing in songs where there isn't even any dancing but since someone above said this is pretty common in kpop... idk, it's too bad, just gives the people who don't take idols seriously more fuel for the fire.

Its common in kpop and most of the time, its the agencies decision. Or they have MR/AR.

I feel bad for Junho but he should at least do his part well.

These kids are good. Give them time and they'll be able to give us the amazing stages we want. Not every boy group is built like DBSK, Shinee, Beast, BTS, BTOB.

it's endearing indeed, that's just such a rookie mistake and it's actually really sweet if you think about it, it makes them more vulnerable and less perfect/robot, so i kinda enjoy it and it's just a good laugh in general
i wish people would just laugh about it like we do and cheer him on to do better next time and practice

No need to be mean to him, Internet! I doubt Swing/MNet were going to take any chances with their debut given the stakes/crowd. And it’s pretty common in the industry nowadays. If you watched closely, you could tell they were lip syncing, or at least heavily using MR. It’s not easy to do they did (in a month no less), so give them a break.
If anything, maybe this will encourage mgmt to let them sing live, which would be awesome!
