"U-Kiss vs. Sean Kingston"

By U-Kiss vs. Sean Kingston, we’re referring to the songwriters and producers of these two acts. Reggae-pop artist Sean Kingston scored a top 5 smash hit last year with RedOne (Grammy Award winning producer of Lady Gaga’s smash hits).

Meanwhile in Korea, U-Kiss began to rise in popularity with the help of kpop hit-maker Brave Brothers. Just as RedOne shaped the sound of pop music today, the same can be said about Brave Brothers with K-pop. Although it’s true Brave Brothers’ released material has had a great influence in K-pop music, there has always been a question of originality behind his tunes.

Recently he’s been accused of plagiarizing Kat Deluna for his single “Invisible” and using an unauthorized sample of Fancy for Son Dambi’s “On A Saturday Night.”

Bang Bang Bang” is a newly released track off of U-Kiss’ debut album produced entirely by Brave Brothers. U-Kiss’ track shares an almost identical riff and crafted synth featured in Sean Kingston’s track.

Compare the two tracks here:

U-Kiss - Bang Bang Bang & Sean Kingston - Fire Burning

I think we're close to being able to declare this a monthly feature. Dancing Floor is my jam, I hope it stays clean!

If we're going by videos alone, I think U-Kiss wins by far.

I personally dislike Kingston but w/e.

This person is the same person who mashed 'oh' and 'shutup and drive'. Is it a hobby?

the ukiss song does sound a lot more similar though.

His/her profile on Youtube says:
"lol Im guessing 2222ne1s* thinking is that the best defense is a good offense. 2ne1 got accused of plagiarism so he/she sets out to prove that every other song is plagiarized"

*2222ne1 is the username

I guess that this user is bitter about the 2NE1 plagiarism thing and is taking it upon himself/herself to prove that all kpop songs are plagiarized as well. :|

The fact that this person is out there purposely trying to damage other group's reputation like this is disgusting to me.

Okay so they're pretty much identical.

I'm still siding with U-KISS just because I don't even know who this Sean Kingston tosser is.

I noticed the similarities immediately - it's hard not to. I mean, it's just blatant. This isn't about U-Kiss versus Sean Kingston and which song you like better, it's about whether or not Brave Brothers plagiarized. And tbh, I'm leaning towards a resounding "yes".

Date: 2010-02-04 04:12 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] risu-risu.livejournal.com
for whatever reason, it always turns into who people like more even though in most cases they aren't the ones that wrote the songs so it doesn't really matter. like the whole business with "i'm a loner" & "blue bird". or just about anytime plagarism is brought up in this fandom :/

At first I thought this was the title track, but I guess not, anyway, yeah, definitely hear similarities. I really wish people in Kpop would stop being so damn lazy.

Also I want these songs together. :O

Oh man, I thought I was the only one who wanted mashups of these plagiarized songs, haha. Personally I kinda think they sound better together than separate. xD

Seriously what I'm thinking is that there are only so many unique beats that songwriters can come up with, and if they listen to a lot of music there's bound to be some sort of influence.

Now I'm not saying yes/no plagiarism, but just throwing that out there.

influence doesn't=copying

all the people they are copying don't seem to have a problem coming up with new stuff

they actually do sound really similar...
honestly i don't know what to say about all these plagiarism accusations... i don't know enough about music production to understand if it's actually plagiarism or if u can come up with ur own track and have it sound really similar to another.

if it is indeed plagarism, then i'd like to say, don't the songwriters realise yet (after so many of these plagiarism issues) that they'll be found out if they do plagiarise?

just out of curiosity, are these sort of comparisons as common for other music outside of kpop? i feel like you could do something like this for a lot of dance songs & find that some have a similar tempo, beat, etc. but that doesn't make it plagiarism so much as its just unoriginal.

Date: 2010-02-04 04:12 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shopaholism.livejournal.com
There aren't these types of comparisons in music industries like the US's simply because it is much larger and fans are not as fanatical. Plus... usually companies just get the rights to the original song and give proper credit. Some plagiarism of lesser-known artists goes under the radar simply because the original artist doesn't have the financial backing to sue. Cases of plagiarism of more well-known artists get dealt with swiftly in court. There really isn't any need for the super-analytic eyes/ears of fans.

they are pretty much the same.

though i wish that either K-producers would stop being lazy or K-nets would wait to see if rights were purchased before throwing plagiarism! around.

that being said i will stand by U-Kiss cause Sean Kingston is a annoying, mouth breathing douche bag.
