Slightly off topic, but does anyone know why this song is so big in Korea?

I checked the charts when Somi's debut was out and this song was above it, and everytime time I check the charts "2002" is, at least, in the top 20. Was it on a drama or something?

I've wondered about this too and my speculation is that it's partly because 2002 was a huge year for Korea, when the World Cup was held in Korea & Japan and the Korean team made it to the semi finals. Maybe people got interested in the title for nostalgic reasons and it got famous from there? I hope people with more knowledge can share, would be interested to know if my guess is right.

I went through the Korean comments on YouTube with a translator, and aside from the "I'm the Korean comment your looking for" remarks, there were a lot about being nostalgic and how happy the song makes them so maybe ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
