Crayon Pop's Way Answers Questions about Idols Smoking, Drinking, Clubbing, and Being Gay

Summary:
-More idols than you'd expect smoke including boy groups and girl groups. None of the members of Crayon Pop smoke but have witnessed others smoking and can smell it on other idols when they're shaking hands.
-There's a lot of waiting around in Music Shows, so some idols take a quick car ride with the windows down to smoke but there's a risk that someone will see and take a photo, so they park in a specific place.
-When Crayon Pop was active, Way used to drink when she was stressed because she had an irregular schedule, had to stay up late to film MVs and get up early morning, Way had insomnia so she drank to fall asleep. She doesn't drink a lot now.
-Some celebrities go to a private bar or VIP rooms to drink, companies can't monitor them when they're there. Sometimes celebs get each others' phone numbers at VIP rooms. A friend of Way's invited her to a party and a popular celebrity asked for her number.
-Way avoids suspicious people, so she hasn't really seen drug use at a club.
-At a big award party, a celeb had weird eyes and behaviours, did a weird sexy dance in front of many people including seniors and staff. The next time Way saw the celeb, it was on the news.
-There are some celebs that are out of the closet and some that aren't because there's a lot of things to handle and they might lose roles. Some celebs have come out to their closest friends. Way has many gay friends.
-Some gay idols meet their partners in gay clubs but also go there to hang out and build community. There's also an app where they can find other gay celebs.

There were apparently more people there, the sasaeng later admitted to it, they'd only taken photos in a way to frame it as if they were on a date - the sasaeng was an akgae fan of another The Boyz member

I'm not sure, she didn't name any names in the video (probably to avoid defamation suits). I don't have a guess since there's so many male idols involved in scandals nowadays.

We been knew. Isn't smoking super common in Korea? Some idols also have super husky voices that got worse over the years, so you can tell that they either smoke or are super intro partying.

i love getting an inside glimpse at idol's trying to live like regular people lol but it's honestly sad that these pretty average behaviors are so taboo in korea. none of this would be so hush hush for western world celebs

I'm only curious to know if any of BTS fits in any of the criteria she mentioned, just because their image is so holy.
I can eliminate the drinking part because it's just super common (more like cultural) in Korea so no need to take a guess about that one. But smoking, drugs, and lgbt will be interesting.

OH I also curious to know how Korean singers take care of their voice? in Japan a lot of singers do throat acupuncture, Taka from One Ok Rock is the one came to mind. He smokes a bit and he's basically surrounded by smokers, but still managed to sing great & full of energy. I think one time he tagged along other celebrity (i forgot who... maybe it's FT Hongki) and he was shocked about such thing. I think in Korea it's not that popular.

I wonder if they do smoke they might be one of those social smoker type? I honestly cant believe with such schedule they still manage to catch a breath, if, they're a regular smoker. But maybe if they do it out of fun then it might not be too dangerous.
But sometimes I'm thinking about Jimin who got sick more often than others, although unsure it's because of his drinking habit of something else.

Suga admitted he used to smoke pre-debut and quit, but I think it was in a video where they showed his new studio he had ashtrays. He also said he stopped drinking at one point and Bon Voyage showed us he must have started again at some point. I swear people said RM had ashtrays in his studio too, but that was a long time ago.

Yeah I remember reading an article about it, it was a staff during a Boy in Luv era Bangtan Bomb. She was shown smoking in the background and made an ableist comment so Bighit removed the video.

Haha because I keep hearing about the one thing people in there to celebrate after being 21 is drinking, it's like someone who didn't get used to drink before, suddenly become a heavy drinker within a year after being legal. A senior took you out you must drink to honor them, so.... to me drinking in Korea is out of question (because in my head everyone does that and no one bat an eye). But for smoking there are people who don't like it since it affects others so... I had to separate it lol.

Yeah the thing is i think a lot more people smoke underage just like in indo 😑, and never talk about it. While drinking is a culture there and they can talk about it after they come of age.

there's nothing shocking about ftisland members smoking, drinking or swearing on social media because they already are well-known heavy smokers that dont even hide it from fans .. recently jaejin did a few instagram lives with his manager and staff while smoking

None of this really sounds new to me, or at least it's all stuff we sort of knew was happening but is not usually openly spoken about. Good for her for her honesty about it, especially the alcohol thing; I'm glad that she's doing better, and it hasn't had lasting effects on her. Also interesting to hear that there are celebrities who are out of the closet (I assume to other celebrities/their management/etc and even have apps to meet each other. I hope eventually they'll have enough of a support network to start living openly and get support to change public perception as well as any laws.

none of this is surprising, except that some idols are partially out, i figured a potentially career-ending thing like that would be kept as quiet as possible, but I'm really glad they have a certain level of safety

Yeah, I was struggling with the grammar for the title to be accurately descriptive. “Homosexuality” sounds too clinical/scientific and somewhat inappropriate, I might change it to “Being Gay” instead. Thanks for the recommendation!
