GFriend's Umji says she initially disliked her stage name

During the broadcast "Cultwo Show", the GFRIEND members introduced themselves using their real names. Yuju commented, “I’ve never introduced myself like this before, so now that we’re doing it on the radio with our real names, it feels odd.”

Umji revealed, “My real name is Kim Ye Won. I initially disliked the stage name ‘Umji,’ so there was a time when I thought that it’d be nice if I promoted with a different name. I like it now, though.”

She continued, “I disliked [the name Umji] so much that I thought I should think of other names. When I think about them now, however, it’s funny. There were names like Yeon Doo and Ah Rang.”

I hated my name (Heidi) when I was younger but I don't think I had a reason. My reason was that I was 12 and hated anything and everything. Now I think it's pretty cool; it's not super common so it's a little unique but it's not so out there that I would be made fun of or no one would know how to say it.

But I guess Umji is kinda weird, especially with its meaning. Why would they choose that? Makes no sense.

I like my given name, but not my full name because I have an awkward triple barrel Latina surname as well as my first name not being my given name. Then because (white) people in high school couldn't be bothered remembering my given name I got a nickname that I'm not particularly fond of and I'm trying to phase out with new people.

My bad. I did forget Sinb. I know they gave stage names for eunha and sinb because both of their real names is Eunbi. So they each got to keep part of their names which I think is nice (Eun and B)

But you are right. Thumb just doesn't fit and isn't cute or anything. It's just...there.
