On June 20, the company’s board of directors held a special meeting and appointed Hwang Bo Kyung as the new CEO following Yang Min Suk’s recent resignation.

Hwang Bo Kyung entered YG Entertainment in 2001 and has been serving as an executive director and CFO.

She commented, “I feel heavy responsibility and a sense of duty during this difficult time. I will straighten out the basics in order for YG Entertainment to take a step forward.”

It was also determined during the board meeting that YG Entertainment will launch a new business transformation committee.

I’m curious how YGE’s going to be run now that a woman’s on top. But if I’m not mistaken, the Yang brothers still hold majority of the shares so idk it’s going to be any different too.

Ahhh, the glass cliff (https://www.vox.com/platform/amp/2018/10/31/17960156/what-is-the-glass-cliff-women-ceos?__twitter_impression=true). Besides that, she's been in the company for almost two decades and has been an executive, so she definitely knew of all the shit that's been revealed and (plus the shit that hasn't) while it was happening. She's probably just going to be doing the yangs' bidding while they're in the wilderness

Omg there’s an actual term for this? My first thought was ofc they would appoint a woman in the middle of this mess so that they can blame her when more shit goes wrong.

well yg-the-company is still releasing statements on behalf of yg-the-man who should be out of company (where he never had any position) so i def don't see any change!
also after being informed about the fact that she was CFO during tax evasion scandals and essentially the one cleaning it up... i mean this will probably help them save face while operating and committing crimes daily like they usually do. but congrats to yg stans who will be claiming that it's sexist to critisize yg now that ceo is a woman, i guess.

from a gender optics, I get the call, but as you say, being CFO with tax evasion on the line ....

Aside from YHS and Co. still owning the shares, thus still being able to influence decision-making, the fact that HBK had worked in the company since 2001, and was also a senior executive and CFO, makes me inclined to believe she’s steeped in the YG culture, which doesn’t bode well for meaningful change. I may be wrong, but her profile isn’t very encouraging in the context of an organisational transformation.

I would be more confident in this company’s change if a) YHS and Co. divested their shares, 2) they restructured the board of directors and key top executive team, and 3) brought in an outside CEO with equally strong or even stronger business experience and a solid PMO to steer the change.

Agreed. They also need new company policies to change the company culture there too and so people can be held accountable

mte. if i didn't know how things went down with their former president i'd think this was a calculated move on their part.

She’s still been part of YG for so long. I have a hard time thinking that putting her in charge is anything but another tactic. She’s probably just as entrenched as the other higher ups.

Lol so transparent. They think that optics and surface level representation would be enough to fix their reputation and not structural change, and they’ll have a woman take the fall if the company goes under and make it seem like no woman can ever be a good CEO. Really progressive of them. In other words, thanks, i hate it

please, as long as the brothers still clearly pull the strings in the back YGE is still dead to me. Also lol at this person having been the financial director for years when the company is under fire for tax evasion and using funds for all kinds of illegal shit, are we supposed to believe she had no idea about that stuff?

but I already see YG stans glad about an excuse to uncancel YG cause things are totally different now lol

I am still cackling over the texts that make it clear your Oppa was pursuing Han Seo Hee rather than the other way around. She is a terrible person but I can see why she went after TOP when everything was wrongfully laid at her feet because of all the Oppalogists. YHS really messed with the wrong bitch.

even as a former top stan, I have to agree with this. top fucked up.
and she may be a jerk but she's conniving in a way that i wish i had have been against gross guys in my own life. and maybe in her world, there was no other way for her to get justice for herself.

If YG entertainment started in '96 and she's been there since '01, then I'll guess she's well aware of what has been happening for years and won't likely change anything.

Like people have already mentioned, YG still has his shares so she's probably just a front and going to follow what he would want anyway. Although, I would love to be surprised and have her do something drastic now that she has the title, but let's be real.

Most of us see right through this, but I saw some screencaps of stans on twitter calling her "Mama YG" now and celebrating, so it's still fooling some people.

The most ridiculous part about this is all the WhyGee stans acting like they've transformed into a woke company overnight. As if she's been there that long and has no clue about all these shenanigans. Sure Jan.

She's been there behind the scenes forever helping enable things, she ain't shit, and YGE ain't shit for putting her there cause as others mentioned the glass cliff phenomenon.

They're transparent as all fuck on what they're attempting to do and it's not cute, not to mention that she's been with YG since 2001 so it's not like anything is going to get better. Just throw the entire company away at this point. There's no saving it.
