Singer feels heat over "revealing" costume

Girl band "Berry good" member Johyun stirred controversy Monday after wearing the costume of fictional computer game character "Ahri" that some said was "too revealing."

The star from the six-member K-pop girl band portrayed the character ― the nine-tailed fox ― from global blockbuster game "League of Legends" at a red carpet event promoting the TV e-sports show "Game Dolympic 2019: Golden Card" slated to air later this year.

The event, joined by some 40 K-pop stars competing in this year's "Dolympic," celebrated the e-sports competition organized by cable network OGN. It was held Monday at OGN e-Stadium inside the SPLEX Center in Sangam-dong in Seoul's Mapo District.

Johyun, in a garter belt and dangling a large purple tail, posed in front of a photo wall with two band mates.

Her costume attracted criticism online for being vulgar.

But her fans defended the star Tuesday, saying online that the costume had been praised for perfectly mimicking Ahri.

The fans, calling themselves the "Berry good gallery," said those who condemned her "don't understand the game character" and "she prepared the costume after thoroughly discussing with the network, according to her agency JTG Entertainment."

Johyun competes in "Dolympic" with other artists from K-pop bands, including Teen Top, NCT, B1A4, ASTRO, fromis_9, DIA, April, SONAMOO and solo artists. A clip from Sunday posted on Korean online portal Naver showed her and band mates practicing for the competition at a PC cafe.

The competitors, divided into two teams, play games like "Overwatch," "League of Legends" and "Battlegrounds mobile dance emotes." Boy band Super Junior's Kim Hee-chul and Shin Dong host the show and each leads a team.

For real, she’s one of my favorite idols. She looks so damn good, but of course because she has a large chest they’re making it way more scandalous than it is. IA with the users above that this video game characters are designed like this all.the.time and that this outfit isn’t too off from what idols wear, but most idols aren’t fuller on the chest/allowed to show cleavage.

there are some radfems in korea that think that women should be covered from head to toe and never show skin because it's always just for the male gaze. never mind there are actual women and celebs who like to dress sexy and be sexual, i.e. hwasa, hyolyn, ga-in. instead of fighting for women's choice to wear what they want or criticizing their management if the women are uncomfortable they attack female idols for showing any skin

and i agree with the video game character design. the problem is that there is no variety among female characters. they usually have the same body type and outfit style. if there was variety in weight, height, appearance, kinds of costumes like there is for men it wouldn't be a problem that there are characters in sexy costumes
