Brave Entertainment expressed their official position on the conflict with Samuel.

On June 8, Samuel shared a post on Instagram where he thanked fans and announced that he’d be pursuing future promotions as an independent artist.

On June 10, a source from Brave Entertainment said that they did not part ways with Samuel and his independent promotions had not been discussed with the agency.

Later on the same day, the agency stated their official position on the matter.

Here is the full statement below:

Hello.

This is Brave Entertainment.

We’d like to inform you of our official position of Samuel’s independent activities.

Samuel’s mother and the company had conflicting opinions because he was a minor, and Samuel’s mother unilaterally informed us of the invalidity of his exclusive contract.

Since we signed a management contract with Samuel in 2014, we have been faithfully performing our duties as a management company in all areas with continuous support and have been making generous investments and faithfully working in all aspects for management and artist growth.

We currently maintain a legitimate contract with Samuel and have not treated him unfairly. We will proceed with legal action using lawful procedures with Samuel.

We are very sorry to have caused concern to fans and the public, and we will try to resolve this problem as soon as possible.

Thank you.

i mean i know the contracts and conditions are shit in korean entertainment companies, but all these idols trying to break free after they got more famous... idk, just seems to leave a bad taste...

Yeah, I always felt the same about those EXO members that used Korea to get famous and then broke their contracts with SM and went back to China to get more money

I mean the courts ruled in two of those members' favor for a reason,SM was doing hollywood accounting and denying them opportunities not to speak of the health problems.

Never gonna forget Tao's injuries D:
No one even helped him buy meds when he couldn't walk.

Yeah IDK how anyone can waltz in here and defend SM when Tao literally lost a chunk of bone off his ankle and was in physio for over a year after leaving. He was also the Chinese member most dedicated to EXO so for even him to leave says a lot about how SM was treating them.

Pretty much, it really amazes me how people can still defend SM after all that. Seeing Tao pass out constantly and on a wheelchair before he left.. this poor boy really was pushed to his limits. I'm 100% if SM allowed him the care he needed, he would still be in EXO rn. He really was the only member in EXO who prob loved EXO more than anything lol

Considering SM's past and current treatment of their employes, I would actually totally side with those members .

They did the right thing tbh. I'll always support idols that leave shitty agencies because no one deserves to be treated like crap. Especially the EXO members had legit health problems and SM didn't care.

This was a hot take. Who in their right mind would think this when S.M. is known for mistreating it’s Chinese trainees and idols.

Um lol they were getting paid shit, injured without getting proper treatment, and treated super unfairly bc they were foreigners.

I mean, to play devil’s advocate, maybe they leave when they are more famous/well-known bc they feel that they don’t have any power (lbr tho even when famous they don’t have power) &/or not enough fans/companies wanting to work with them.
Sad as it is, no one will really care if a “”no name trainee”” leaves – but people WILL care, & companies will wanna work with em, if it is someone with some modicum of notoriety.
Idk if that makes sense or not, lol.

eh there's merit to wanting to break the contract since the agency seems to have made him perform at an event that resulted in him not getting paid. the agency had to publicly apologize but damage was done.

there's a follow up posted by Samuel's attourney

So...his mom is causing problems? His statement was just about continuing to make music and his fans, not really separation

Wasn't his mom also behind him leaving Pledis? (that sounded more nefarious than I meant it to)

Doesn't his mom have a reputation for being a major stage mom? She's the reason he never ended up in Seventeen either

I'm always skeptical when the parents get involved. See somi or Nicole from Kara.

Every time I come into these posts I feel like people forget that these idols are underage so obviously their parents are looking out for their best interests. Unless proven otherwise, clearly these parents care about their children.

Date: 2019-06-10 04:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] 921227.livejournal.com
That/s debatable. If a lot of these parents had their kids 'best interest' in mind, they probably wouldn't have let them become idols in the first place

Date: 2019-06-10 04:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rainstormraider.livejournal.com
Unless proven otherwise it’s usually the idol’s choice.

Kids/teens want to do a lot of stuff, doesn't mean their parents have to let them. Considering the average length for trainees and the turnover rate and the working conditions -- unless my kid had insane talents or an IT factor I'd not let them be an idol. && if a parent goes into trainee/idol contracts for their minor child w/o knowing all the ins and outs that they can, doesn't seem like best interest either

And yet that is how it works in the world of sports too?

As I started from my first comment onward, unless proven otherwise nothing here suggests that the parents are coercing their son into anything he doesn’t want to do.

Reminds me of Jungkook's case tho, he said his parents let him do whatever he wants. I mean... he got scouted by a lot of agencies and there were big names like JYP, also woolim & cube were big too back then because of Infinite & Beast. But he chose the 7th ones, the one that's very unpopular (eventhough BH was under JYP/subsidiary but still) just because he saw another trainee that looked cool. His parents definitely go easy on him by not forcing him to join bigger company.
I still wonder what if bangtan didnt make it and BH turned out to be a shitty company like TS lol.

I think everything is just destined and some are based on luck. People wouldn't really know which companies are bad before cases like this came up. And I'm pretty sure in the future BigHit will also be like SM.

This is why I think the stage parent narrative is more mediaplay from the agencies than actual facts.

But sometimes the idols themselves might want to avoid backlash etc by using their parents as well. Depends on the case too.

apparently other articles mentioned brave bro making samuel perform at his bitcoin investment conferences without adequate stage prep (lack of dancers, no makeup/stylist) and refused to pay him when he asked. so brave bro is shady af
