On June 8, Samuel took to his personal Instagram account to announce that he will be pursuing activities as an independent artist from here on out.

After appearing in Mnet’s “Produce 101 Season 2,” Samuel made his debut as a solo artist in August 2017 with “Sixteen.” He appears to have parted ways with Brave Entertainment now that he has announced his decision to promote as an independent artist.

His message to fans:

Dear my Garnets [official fan club name],

I am writing in response to Garnets who seem to be worrying too much about me. I would like to inform my important fans who have been encouraging me that I started my career as a solo musician.

I will continue to communicate and meet with Garnets in various ways, and promise to show up with good music and wonderful performances soon. I will never forget that you believed in me and waited for me. I will be Samuel who Garnets are proud of.

That's so true! But I also felt that Brave didn't really want him to debut in Produce 101 season 2 group coz they want to launch him solo right after the show that they had a hand in him losing.

Its what I felt back then coz obviously he's talented and got lots of fans so its really a mystery for me why he didn't make the final group. But that's just my thoughts. I don't expect anybody to feel or think the same way.

I feel like leaving Pledis for that embarrassment that was 1Punch really was the worst move he made career-wise and it will follow him forever...
I do wish him all the best, though! I hope his music will become more of my cup of tea with him parting from Brave.

Oh, I agree that it’s good that he didn’t debut with SVT (specially because his age is what kept me from stanning predebut SVT).
In my ideal scenario he wouldn’t have debuted with anyone on that age. But I f he absolutely had to debut, then I’d rather he did it with SVT, because at least they would have been miles better for him and his career than One.

I'm surprised. I really think Brave bros gave him some bops and whatever they can as a small company. Im still mad he didn't make it into WannaOne, but I think he had a decent post-PD101 career. He is still super young so maybe he can go join P-Nation or some independent label. I wouldn't suggest striking out with his own funds.

brave did good things to get samuel's name in the spotlight and constantly got him gigs which is good but music-wise they did nothing for him i hope he finds a good direction for the type of music he wants to put out

samuel is one of the boys i was certain would make it after PD101. sixteen was great, his follow-up song was okay too but then he just fell of the earth. i wonder what went wrong

I adore this kid to pieces and I hope he can get picked up by another company. Idk if he and Brave parted naturally or if he sought out a seperation, but hes young, cute and talented-- I have no doubts we'll continue to see him
