Phoebe Robinson is tired of being the token black woman in an ocean of white dude comedians. So in this podcast, Phoebe’s calling the shots. She’ll host intimate, funny and super honest conversations with musicians, actors, writers and comedians who are killing it in their fields--AND who aren’t white dudes! Stay tuned for the one token white guy (it’s only fair), and a whole lot of hijinks.

K-pop star Eric Nam talks to Phoebe about his journey from being a Korean-American kid in Atlanta to becoming an idol in South Korea and around the world.

Time stamps:
0:00-8:15 Intro: Phoebe and Joanna Solotaroff talk about recently seeing the movie Us and watching Shark Tank
8:15-18:30 Phoebe's Chief of Staff Mai Huynh gives a K-pop primer
18:30-55:00 Interview with Eric about leaving his secure job in America to start a K-pop career, the pressure of the "Nation's Boyfriend" label, whether or not he keeps in touch with this TV wife, Solar, and his songwriting process.
55:00-58:06 Closing

That was a really interesting interview! I’m glad that he talked about his experiences being asian-american and pointing out the importance of asian-Americans making it big in the US music industry and not just asian acts from abroad. It was also interesting to hear about his songwriting process.

Also i never thought of how those subtitles and cg effects on korean tv shows can dictate how the audience reacts or feels towards a person or situation. I just often found them childish or out of place but i can see how they can also be manipulative too
