On May 24, Yonhap News reported that girl group PRISTIN is disbanding.

According to the report, the members and Pledis Entertainment held discussions and ultimately decided on disbandment.

Pledis Entertainment confirmed the news and revealed that members Nayoung, Roa, Yuha, Eunwoo, Rena, Xiyeon, and Kyla have terminated their contracts with the agency. Kyulkyung, Yehana, and Sungyeon will be staying at Pledis Entertainment.

PRISTIN was Pledis Entertainment’s first girl group following After School. Seven members were known prior to debut through Mnet’s “Produce 101” with Kyulkyung and Nayoung becoming final members of IOI.

The 10-member group debuted in March 2017 and released two mini albums. PRISTIN also won the Rookie Award from MAMA and Seoul Music Awards following their debut. Five members of PRISTIN previously promoted as unit group PRISTIN V in May 2018. It has been almost two years since the whole group released an album.

Previously, there were rumors of disbanding after member Kyla went on a hiatus in October 2017.

Hello. This is Pledis Entertainment.

First, we sincerely thank fans who care for and love PRISTIN.

We are delivering the official statement regarding the disbandment of PRISTIN and the termination of contracts for members.

The company and the members had in-depth discussions for a long time and deliberated before coming to a mutual agreement. It has been decided that with the exclusion of members Kyulkyung, Yehana, Sungyeon; seven members (Nayoung, Roa, Yuha, Eunwoo, Rena, Xiyeon, and Kyla) will have their exclusive contracts terminated as of May 24, 2019.

We would like to first apologize to fans, who have always been supportive, for delivering this unfortunate news.

Because this is a decision that must be made carefully, a lot of time was given in thinking about this matter. At the end of discussions, we decided to respect the wishes of the PRISTIN members and came to the conclusion of disbandment and contract termination.

Members Kyulkyung, Yehana, and Sungyeon expressed their intent to stay with the company. We will actively support Kyulkyung, Yehana, and Sungyeon so that they can have stable individual activities. We will wholeheartedly support them so that they can be more active and have more diverse activities.

As for the PRISTIN members who will be leaving our agency, we would like to express our deep thanks to them and sincerely support them and their new paths even though their official contracts have ended.

Since this is an important and sensitive matter that required a careful decision, we sincerely apologize to fans for delivering this news late and worrying fans through this news. Lastly, we ask that fans show unchanging support for the seven PRISTIN members, Kyulkyung, Yehana, and Sungyeon as they embark on a new start.

I sort of thought more would stay and debut in this hypothetical stone x pledis group? hopefully this means that that's not a thing and yehana and seungyeon will become trainees again for a while and get transferred to another agency

there were a lot of gems in this group so i hope they get snatched up if they still want to stay in the business! hopefully as an ex-ioi member nayoung still has a chance. and hopefully pledis never debuts a girl group again until there's significant change in management

Disbandment news are never easy to take even if they're not my faves. This group had their debut 2 years ago! Their agency is popular enough with talents that are doing good so it's really surprising for me.

i can't believe so many have terminated their contracts, but at the same time it makes sense. good on them for not wanting to waste any more time in a company that doesn't give a shit about them. confused about yehana and sungyeon remaining given that pledis has paid them dust but maybe there's something that i've missed. idk

pristin's minis were some of my faves and i still listen to them regularly.. i'm sad we won't be getting any more of their music. pledis is garbage at managing their girl groups so i hope they just stick with what they have and don't debut any new ones for a while...

I’m genuienly bummed since this group really wowed me and they had so much potential. I hope the members that left can still be in entertainment- they’re a talented bunch! And Nayoung is gorgeous, I know she’s older but hopefully a company doesn’t pass her up.

Only 2 years after debut and 2 singles + a sub-unit... They IOI girls promoted more with their ex-group than with Pristin.

Not surprised, but still sad. Finally we get closure and they're able to move on, but what a giganstic waste. They had so much potential, as individuals and as a group, but the hiatus really hurt them, and Pledis completely dropped the ball with them. I hope they can recover and have success in the entertainement business if they want to, but chances are slim :( I wonder what will happen to Yehana and Sungyeon, did they re-signed? It sounds like such a bad idea given how few activities/push they were given, even when the group was active...

they didn't re-sign, they just didn't terminate their contracts so their original contracts are still running.my guess is that the rumors about the stone x pledis gg debut are true and they'll redebut with them.

i thought i would be less affected by this news since we get closure and a lot of the girls can try to re-debut in another group but i really did love pristin as a whole so much. even with pledis' history, i actually had high hopes since they did well to drum up pre-debut hype and gain a lot of traction during debut. boo boo the fool me.

well, i have to give pledis some credit for actually letting the girls go instead of keeping the dungeon locked. yehana and sungyeon are two of my faves so i'm looking forward to their future activities.

Nobody is shocked and I’m betting this had already been official behind closed doors. I’m sad for them mostly because they just...they were thrown away. Potential aside, some of those girls racked up trainee time and all of them pretty much just had their dream/goal ripped from them (unless those that left are getting shifted into that rumored stonexpledis group as someone else mentioned). Like...it happens, but for a company to be blatant in disregard is a slap to the face. Here is to hoping for bright futures for them all. I’m mostly sad because I didn’t follow Eunwoo earlier and now her instagram is private.

I’m in shock. I can’t believe they only got One (??!) Good year out of this. Out of bring a group. I was never the BIGGEST fan but I’m legitimately devastated for them. They were treated so fucking poorly despite all of their success and potential????
