"Avengers: Endgame" surpassed 10 million in attendance Saturday, becoming the fastest film to top the mark in South Korea, its distributor said.

The latest Marvel superhero flick had set the record by 7:30 p.m., Walt Disney Company Korea said based on a real-time box-office tally from the Korean Film Council.

It exceeded the mark in the 11th day since it hit the silver screen, outpacing the earlier record of 12 days set by the Korean historic action film "Roaring Currents" in 2014. "Roaring Currents" is still the most-viewed film of all time in the country with 17.6 million viewers.

"Endgame" also became the 24th film to attract more than 10 million moviegoers and the sixth foreign-made movie following "Avatar" (2009), "Interstellar" (2014), "Frozen" (2014), "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (2015) and "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018).

"Endgame," the epic finale to the superhero studio's decadelong series, has been breaking South Korea's box-office records since its release on April 24.

Its advance ticket sales reached 2 million, replacing the previous record set by its predecessor, "Infinity War."

On the first day of its release, moreover, an all-time high of 1.3 million people watched the film. The previous single-day record was 1.24 million set by the Korean action fantasy "Along With the Gods: The Last 49 Days" on Aug. 1 last year.

In "Endgame," the Avengers' surviving superheroes, who became Earth's last hope after the end of "Avengers: Infinity War," battle the villain Thanos.

This is just great cause there are some really powerful women in it, not that I've seen Endgame, but CAPTAIN MARVEL. And her lesbian undertones (overtones? lmfao).

I know that Hollywood now tailors their movies to a global audience - I read once that they have less dialogue now so there is less to translate, voice over and less lip movements to match, etc. So I wonder if we'll never get a lesbian love story with Captain Marvel cause it won't appeal globally with so many places, like Korea, and clearly, they are making lots of money there so. :x

I'm glad it's doing well (cause of the powerful women), I'm also like but... if it's doing well in markets like that, then we'll never get a lesbian Captain Marvel storyline.

From what i heard there wasn’t a lot of screentime for her and the other women in endgame. The main focus was on iron man and cap america while everyone else fell to the wayside :( it seems like they downplayed captain marvel’s powers on purpose to make the male heroes still be the main focus

I understand that decision, and I'm glad for it, because she would have beat Thanos in minutes and we'd have no movie, plus the story arcs of the old characters who weren't continuing contractually - Iron Man and Captain America - that they needed to wrap up.

yeah but i don't care about iron man and cap america lol. hopefully the new avengers movies have more essential female heroes

Neither do I lol, the drama in Age of Ultron and Civil War killed all my interest for earthbound Avengers aside from Black Panther and Doctor Strange, but it wouldn't feel right either if they gave them any less of an ending. With regards to female heroes, it would be nice if they have more, I just hope the people behind the movies do them justice. I don't want what happened with Captain Marvel to happen with other female-led MCU titles.

the russo brothers have got to go. they are terrible. and joss whedon needs to stay away permanently. captain marvel was obviously a last minute attempt to save themselves from the fact that they barely have any key female characters in the mcu. the movie didn't even get any breathing room before endgame was announced and released. also it was stupid to introduce a super powerful character that could win a major fight like thanos and then in the movie right after pretend like she isn't one of the most powerful beings ever. the writers messed this series up so much. the side series movies continue to be superior like you said meanwhile the main avengers movies are just clip shows with snapshots of superficial characterization

Should’ve happened for a better movie (aka a movie not from the mcu). If it has to be marvel i would prefer black panther

Same.

Endgame was okay. But not as good as BP.
