Korean hip-hop group Epik High and girl band f(x) performed as representatives of Korean pop music at a global music showcase in Cannes held this week, according to a press release by the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA).

Epik High and f(x) performed for about 90 minutes on "K-Pop Night" event
-- held January 26 at Hotel Martinez in Cannes, France -- in front of music and media industry executives at MIDEM 2010, KOCCA explained in the statement released yesterday.

"I felt a connection with many of the attendees despite our different nationalities and age," Tablo of Epik High was quoted as saying. "It was an amazing, entertaining performance."

"I was surprised that so many people showed up," said f(x) member Sulli about the performance. "We are grateful for their enormous support and in a few years, we hope to hold our solo concert in many countries overseas."

The two groups drew a lot of interest from local journalists and record companies. Agency SM Entertainment explained that the girl band received numerous inquiries and offers from some 20 companies, including Warner Music Sweden, about making an European debut. Epik High was also approached by an agent, who manages U.S. hip-hop artist Pitbull, to write songs and by an Australian record distribution company Timeless who offered to distribute the group's music both online and offline.

MIDEM (Marche International du Disque et de l'Edition Musicale) is an annual, global music trade fair which is hosted by French media group Reed Midem and attended by record companies and distributors from all over the world. This year, it was held from January 24 thru 27 at Palais des Festivals et des Congres in Cannes, France.

Epik High -- composed of Tablo, Mithra Jin and DJ Tukutz -- debuted in 2003 with the album "Map of the Human Soul" and gained popularity with the success of their consequent albums "High Society" and "Swan Songs". The group released their sixth album "[e]" in September 2009.

f(x) -- composed of Victoria, Amber, Luna, Sulli and Krystal -- debuted last September with the single "LA chA TA". Their latest single "Chu~♡" has made the Top 20 singles chart in Korea.

ETA: I checked out the original Korean article and I think Epik High got also about 10 inquiries from some other companies in addition to ones mentioned (if Google translate is to be trusted).

Is...is that Yunho in your icon?

Is that facial hair that I see on him?

How is this possible?

I was there and actually not a f(x) fan because I don't know them but they are really cute and they definitely rock the stage.

I was amazed at Luna's voice during her solo.
It was awesome.

ugh seriously, no one ever comes here. And when someone interesting finally remembers to come here, I can't go lol FML.

I'm from Brazil! And you? I mean, assuming you are from South America too. XD

ikr? I usually end up paying outrageous sums of money for my ticket and then come down with a body-crippling illness the day of the show XD

Technically I'm not from South America (Canada :D) but I've lived in Chile for more than 9 years (thus the majority of my life)! I had a feeling you were from Brazil, not sure why :D

Article fails to mentions that the girls sang in ENGLISH! 8D I wonder if they'll ever release the English version of the songs they performed.

Question for the European omona members!: Which country would you want f(x), or any k-pop group, to debut in? Do you think they would be successful in said country or are you only picking it because you live there (and want to see them in person lol)? Just curious. xD

I'd say France since they seem more open-minded to me to foreign music. Of course they have their own music industry which is pretty huge but yes they can accept music from every country as well. As long as it's good or/and catchy.
I'm not living in France btw.

Germany~ when it comes to music we're pretty open-minded. i can't even remember how many different languages and weird songs we already had in our top 10 charts.. lol
so i think it's worth a try~

France, Germany and Sweden are really good options. Germany is very open. Sweden has a long history with Jpop (don't ask *___*) and France has a huge fanbase ready for the artists.
Now I still think that GD and his Heartbreaker album would be seriously very welcomed. But basically bands like Epik High, Clazziquai, Big Bang, DBSK, Fx, Davichi, 2am or even SHINeee could do it with a good management.

I agree with France, Germany and Sweden too!
France because well yes i'm french and i'd like to see them here lol; we have a huge j-sound and now k-sound fanbase (i'm pretty sure japan fans could come at a k-concert!); we used to be good at receiving asian bands; it's like the center in europe.. i mean it's easy for people from UK, italia, portugal, spain, belgium, germany etc.. to come here if they want.
Germany and Sweden are very open so yes too. Plus, Germany has companies for vkei if i remember well they put the french ones out, so i things they'd have a good management.

It's pretty sad it's not mentioned where was free beer during the show kekeke

And Epik High were great and took the time to introduce their songs speaking about North & South Korea, about Hip Hop and many other things. Musik is their life. SRSLY.
