Date: 2019-05-03 07:46 pm (UTC)not enough attention to detail/weird writing:
- overcomplicating this for the sake of drama, like how it took them so damn long to decipher Ahn's aerial vision read of Sungmo's location
- so that dude who gave the jacket story just straight up gave a terribly weak testimony (just a bloody jacket, nothing else) which wasn't investigated at all
- googling alexithymia it literally says on wikipedia that it's not classified as a mental disease and the drama completely misportrayed the disorder for the sake of drama again
- the painting that hid the document was so obviously out of place among the other art
- this is random but the flashback to scene in the snowfall where Ahn is at the orphanage - so Sungmo was there?? We had a whole discussion in that ep's post about how we didn't see him there, whut?? And how is that a "good memory" of Ahn??
- why did Sungmo kill the people if his father had already planned to do it?
- why play all this cat and mouse if you planned to be caught in the end
- was Sungmo's mom the one who gave Geun Taek his name? she looks so much younger than him and it's creeping me out
- I still don't understand why Jaein's dad was so complacent in all of this
- Daebong and his storyline was completely pointless I'm sorry
The weird redemption arc and barely-there repercussions the villainous characters went thru:
- I feel like Jisoo's death didn't serve any purpose but give Sungmo his sad moment and serve as a boost for his redemption arc which makes me even more infuriated they killed her off
- I thought Jaein's "punishment of time" speech would've been her going in hard on Sungmo and his mom for the collateral suffering they caused her family, instead of, you know, siding with them and empathizing with them... She's allowed to be angry and she should be.
- Sungmo saying he had "a conscience" towards Ahn and Jaein like he hadn't put both of them thru hell already
- only 13 years in prison after all of that?? fuck that
Other random thoughts:
- Ahn getting serious health repercussion doing readings made me think exactly like Jaein, that he can't do any hard crime cases (also I know this isn't the right time but... I've never seen anyone's cheeks inflate like that when they're getting cpr lol)
- maybe I'm (definitely) overreacting but even they way they portrayed homeless people as these extremely dirty, smelly, drunk people kinda made me go hummm
Overall, I feel like the drama had a strong start as in it caught my interest and made me curious over how things would progress. It was at it's best around the middle when it revolved around Ahn's and Jaein's budding relationship and their confessions. All the police work was the weakest thing in the whole drama. Towards the end both of Jinyoung's and Shin Yee Eun's acting got a little weak. Jinyoung doesn't have enough credibility to portray dark scenes with high intensity, but other than that he was absolutely perfect for the role of Ahn, it's amazing how his first lead role was such a good fit for him. Overall, I was happy to see Jinyoung in a variety of emotions and scenes, which showed the many sides of his abilities (some good, some less good), even if perhaps the different genres in the drama didn't mash together as well as the drama writers maybe thought they did.
There was a lot of weak points in the story I feel like, a lot of exaggeration, straight up ignoring logic or other questionable choices (like as much as I love seeing Jinyoung's sixpack, that served no purpose or made remotely sense in context, and I feel like after all the hard work he put into getting that body, THAT'S all you're gonna use it for? lolll I feel cheated on Jinyoung's behalf) that reminds me I'd be interested in hearing him talk about his wokr out regime/diet in that regard
Tbh they almost completely lost me at the end because I wasn't interested or wanted to give Sungmo the time of day. Idk was he supposed to be likable at some point of the drama but he always seemed shady at best, and all of my dislike towards him was totally justified in the end lol.

Date: 2019-05-03 07:47 pm (UTC)I think it's generally known (or should be) that bodies like that are almost impossible to keep in the long run, not even big Hollywood action stars can keep their perfect bodies up forever, it's just not sustainable (or if it is, it's a very limited life lol).
But Jinyoung should've done a shirtless photoshoot while he was jacked up. The world was robbed.

Date: 2019-05-03 08:10 pm (UTC)As an example of pacing/writing: watching Lee ahn and Jae In try to find a building in episode 15 was an exercise in stupidity and frustration. Like, it took him how long to realize it was from high up? And while some of the threads in the show weren't precisely dropped, they were poorly and casually explained/handled. The show should have been either light or serious, or it should have had a much tighter writing/directing staff.
I do appreciate that the kept Lee Ahn & hyung's relationship complicated in the end. It is a complicated thing, I don't believe there is an easy answer to how Lee Ahn should feel, and to how the character was portrayed.
OP is right, in that one pic Jinyoung looks tipsy, but also like his lippie is still perfect. How does that work? Especially in a matte shade.
My final thoughts: Jinyoung owes me for the 16 hours I spent. He better bring some extraness to his comeback dancing.

Date: 2019-05-03 10:23 pm (UTC)In my head, Eun Soo isn't dead, ya maybe Sung Mo killed all those people and set fire back then but Imma pretend the main 3 found out and helped pin it on Seung Mo's dad and Jae In's dad got out and Eun Soo through this experience learned that she should aim for higher than Seung Mo. Oh and Eun Soo's dad loses his job and faces corruption charges.
Idk something along those lines. Maybe Seung Mo's mom dies too, idc about her.

This reminds me of some celeb saying how mean comments really cut deep if it's something you already see lacking in yourself, and it's like confirmation to yourself. But I'm also like 98% sure there's more productive ways of learning about your strenghts and weaknesses.

Date: 2019-05-04 09:29 am (UTC)i'm still sad about jisoo :( her death was truly without any purpose. i understand that it was part of sungmo's redemption arc but that was very weak and considering he ended up in prison anyway and no one really forgave him/remained on the fence about him it really made no sense for her to die. like would have anything happened differently if she was still alive? i think not, except maybe her father agreeing to start a new investigation and then turning himself in. whatever. justice for jisoo noona!
jaein putting handcuffs on sungmo was very, very satisfying! i'm glad it was her who got to do that. although yes i agree with a comment above, that her speech about the punishment of time was a little weak. that said, that whole part in the last episode, with lee ahn confronting sungmo, jaein and police arriving to arrest him and everything, that was a true highlight of the show for me! really really really good acting by jinyoung and kim kwon!!! definitely one of my most favorite scenes.
i felt like jaein was a little shafted towards the end, like there was SO MUCH happening with sungmo and lee ahn, that sometimes i felt like they didn't really know what to do with her so they had her do ~stuff at the police station or whatever. but well everything still came together at the end! they got another date (sadly no amusement park) and moved in together kdfkdfj I KNEW IT... i'm honestly a little surprised that there was no marriage proposal lmfao
crime-wise, yeah, it seems resolved mostly but i was pleasantly surprised to see that they handled the matter of forgiveness really well! i was prepared to watch them all forgive sungmo but it's a really really difficult subject, especially to someone like lee ahn, and that kind of struggle between wanting to forgive someone but not being able to was portrayed pretty well. i liked that scene where lee ahn and sungmo's mom run into each other in the apartment and ahn goes like "don't expect me to forgive hyung, at least not right now" that was good!
all in all, a very entertaining drama. it's funny because i wish we could see more of jinyoung and yeeun NOW that they're more comfortable with each other (which was pretty obvious in their last few scenes together). i think you can tell they both became much better actors through this drama, like remember the beginning? :') i'm not worried about yeeun but i do hope that FOR ONCE jype doesn't drop the ball on jinyoung and gets him another acting gig soon!!

Date: 2019-05-09 07:07 pm (UTC)I'm pretty disappointed with how the show decided to end. More so because it had such a strong start and I fell in love with the characters. The show knew how to switch tones/genres fairly smoothly imho in the beginning. It could be both serious/dark and cute/funny.
I wish we'd gotten more Jaein/LeeAhn moments. The show became to invested in solving the 'mysterious case' )which btw became so convoluted I almost gave up on trying to piece it together. The show forgot that its strong points where its characters and their dynamics.
I think I only really liked Seungmo because of his relationship to LeeAhn (and Eunsoo). I didn't care about his mom. As tragic as their story was, I wish the show hadn't focused on that so much. Also! what was the point of killing off Eunsoo other than breaking my heart.
