I don’t know wtf goes on with Twice’s styling. One time they look tacky and the other they look GOOOORGEOUS with outfits like that. I’m in love. Plis, someone post this for the best outfits threads! This is my favorite performance until now. The only bad thing is the remaining racists assholes still being ridiculous on hating Sana for their last week promo, which happens to me my all time favorite from them.

I’m finally caught up on everything with Sana. It’s such a tough situation...I totally get why some Koreans are upset but I also understand Sana wanting to commemorate the new emperor. It’s a really unfortunate misstep, and unlike the Tzuyu/Taiwan issue, the general public is not likely to let this one go.

Was she really commemorating the emperor though? What she wrote read (to me) more like she was just talking about the eras themselves, not the emperors. But I don't know if that's just splitting hairs (because obviously they don't see it that way in S.Korea). (edited becuase I can't spell)

I think you’re right. If the translation of comments made by knetz are anything to go by, some seemed to be more angry that she made a post in japanese on their official insta account (which, in their opinion, should only be for korean promotions). Luckily it seems like fans are still very supportive of her.

she didn't even really commemorate the emperor but journalists deliberately twisted her words and made it look like she did. a lot of people, koreans included, have been defending her. it seems to be a very vocal minority that's still giving her shit and it sucks that it's affecting her this much but hopefully it'll blow over with time.

I think the comment above about splitting hairs is right- she didn’t have to mention the emperor specifically as the change non eras is because of the change in emperors. Any comment about Japan current events that isn’t their chart/concert news or pro-Korea is going to be controversial.

It’s super unfortunate. Not sure what country you’re in, but for the US it’s kind of similar to someone making a post honoring Robert e lee. You’ll have people who don’t think it’s a big deal, but for those of us who suffered due to his ideology it’s inexcusable.

I'm not sure you fully get it (I'm not being rude, honest, just trying to explain), her post was in no way honoring the emperor. She was literally talking about an era that ended and the one's about to begin. Japanese use their emperors' names to differentiate between eras. Her post was more like her saying goodbye 20th century, and hello 21st century.

It's embodied in the culture and has nothing to do with the emperor himself, or anything political.

I’m aware of the distinction, but for the average person you can’t differentiate the two. And the emperor isn’t so much a political figure but a physical embodiment of ideology that led to Japan’s colonization of Korea (and others). There is literally no way for any post acknowledging the change in eras (which is tied to the current emperor’s reign) that would not have left a bad taste in people’s mouths. Is it overkill? Possibly. But there’s so much more context to this beyond movement between time periods.

I absolutely love the outfits. The stylist they had this era, please keep them. I love that they’re actually cohesive, sometimes they have stages where the girls look like they’re performing totally different songs.(or if it’s the same team they’ve always had, they made a lot of progress)

the stupid thing was that earlier that week the koreans were scolding the japanese for saying something to one of monsta x's members about being korean (i can't remember what) and then like 1 day later they are attacking sana for being japanese and saying something about the new era

The journalist straight up lied about her post though, she never mentioned anything about an emperor and the journalist even came out yesterday apologizing for mistranslating her post. she just wished the new era in since she grew up in the previous one there was nothing malicious about it.

They look SO good in this performance! All of them have nice outfits and their hair! Mina's high ponytail! I haven't been the biggest fan of the blue hair either but here it looked super nice.

I don't know what it is with this song but I keep watching all of their performances even though I'm not really that big of a Twice stan.
