At Blackpink's concert in Illinois, Jennie was having some problems with her top during a performance of "Don't Know What To Do". When the chorus started she ran backstage to fix it while the other 3 continued performing without her.

while I can understand that must have been very uncomfortable, I'm also a little disappointed at her reaction. We have seen wardrobe malfunctions worse than this and the person continues to perform and make it work. I am happy then when she came back she had tons of energy and didn't let it ruin the rest of the performance.

Also, gross at YG stylist giving her a top that had the possibility of ripping open. With how much kpop groups dance, the clothes should be made to withstand a lot.

I don't quite remember the source (maybe a former trainee testimony?) but I remember hearing that for some costumes they are altered and taken in while on the person- so they look great and fit super tight, but have little to no functionality :( it makes no sense to do that to people who are expected to be dancing and performing dynamic movements

The "worst than this" is up to personal opinion though
I wouldn't feel comfortable performing with my bra and breasts expose to the audience. This isn't like Bom loosing a shoe and tiptoing a perf... her body is even more exposed than usual

She really didn't handle that well at the start, but pulled it back together afterwards. My general impression of Jennie is that once she gets flustered she unravels, and it takes her a while to get her equilibrium back, I think that's just her personality, but also think over time she will learn to cope better with mishaps.

ETA:
They all seemed affected by it, tbh they all looked quite low energy even without the wardrobe malfunction?

I hate that they have to wear fashion/runaway clothes on stage, especially when altered to be tighter.

They need to give them actual stage outfit, made to perform

Poor her. That’s not cool at all and I see no problem with her going to the back stage to fix it. Hell, if needed, they could stop the whole thing until she could be able to come back. I don’t know if they are this low energy bc of the unfit clothes or just tired. I have this impression that they never get a proper meal to pull the hours they spend on performances, which is probably the case.

it must have been really gonna expose her chest or something she was hella spooked to let go enough that began to wonder around aimlessly before getting it fixed

i think its fine, i aint mad at her, shit happens, yeah some idols handle it differently when something like this happens but like...at the end of the day, its really not an issue. rather her get it fixed then something worse happen ya know? i just can't fault her reaction lol its relatable and a bit out of her control

but she came back all smiles so there ya go, performance saved!

the comments here are kinda weird tbh...i don’t think we have the right to judge what’s a serious wardrobe malfunction and what isn’t. she didn’t look comfortable at all, it shouldn’t matter if someone had a worse malfunction and still stayed on to perform. if i risked exposing myself, you bet i’ll run off the stage to get it fixed asap.

Yeah for real. Like...why would she want her chest exposed to thousands of people and cameras? It happened suddenly so of course no one is prepared. Like how is freaking out about your boob about to be shown something to dog her for?

uh if my chest or any other body part is at risk of being exposed in front of thousands of ppl with their cameras pointed at me at all kinds of angles i'm gonna drop everything and fix that shit first esp if nobody else seems bothered enough to help. you see her looking for help, could nobody from the crew/dancers have run up to her with something as a quick fix till she finished the performance? if they're not going to do that then of course she'll "walk off" the stage. there's a way to handle things professionally but if nobody seems to want to then forget professionalism.

There was a staff member just to the side who told her when to go off stage. She made eye contact with him, once saw what was up he radio'd the back and told her when to go. They must be trained to stay out there until staff says otherwise.

Honestly this was just one wardrobe malfunction of several - nobody else went off stage, but at one point one of the girls took off her shoe so she could get rid of the sock (not sure why, guess it was uncomfortable), somebody had hair caught in a zipper, and I think one or two more similar things happened. As Rose said at the end it was a chaotic night.

The bigger issue to me is they really don't have enough content to fill a concert - even with cover songs, dance performances, a 5 minute Kia commercial, and a long jam session by just the band it still barely was 1.5 hours. I had fun but until they have a few more albums out I'll spend my money on groups with a bigger catalog.

wow that sounds unfortunate. like it was said before they really need custom made stage outfits to be able to perform comfortably rather than just wear things straight off the runway.

idk what it will take for yg to realize that they need more songs for a concert. maybe when publications start publishing tour reviews? idk

I’ve had half my boob pop out before and it’s nagl so I understand why she had to run off. She already looked uncomfortable and it won’t help her perform better either if she continued to stay on stage while a wardrobe malfunction is going on with her. But she didn’t handle the surprise really well imo considering she looked lost af which I understand to an extent but also girl you’re a performer, you need to think faster on your feet. She’ll get better with handling these types of situations over time tho because this is definitely something you learn over time so I mean it’s a learning process not just for Jennie and BP. But not @ how staff just stood to the side tho like ???? I’ve seen wardrobe malfunctions in K-Pop concerts and staff/dancers/other members were always quick to run to the artist and help. So props to Jennie on that end tbh.

On another note, I have noticed that they’re all looking a little winded with or without the wardrobe malfunction. I hope they get proper rest and diet. I hope they eat more to have more energy. I understand they’re naturally skinny (my sister’s the same as Lisa tbh even if she inhales 5x more food than I do) so I’m all for them pigging out for the energy. It would help a great deal in keeping up stamina while on stage.

ETA: Also this incident further proves the fact that K-Pop idols need custom-made stage outfits or really comfortable/strong off-the-rack outfits because wardrobe malfunctions happen on the regs in this industry and it ruins the experience for the both the idols and the fans.

strange to see comments reprimanding jennie. she did well. actually she did the best she could in that situation and got quickly back on stage.
what is more surprising is that i don't see reports about wardrobe issues more often. their outfits always look like they are ready to fall apart the second bp do anything beyond standing still and looking pretty. even during music show you can see all of their outfits riding up to their hips very quickly. so i wish their stylists would get a clue and realize that they are actually performers and should be able to do their choreo.

I'm leaning on the side of 'she could've done better'. Yes she looked really uncomfortable and I'm not saying she should've stayed on stage with that massive wardrobe malfunction, but even her motions were super frazzled. She was pacing around and missing her cues before she stepped off stage, which kind of messed up her teammates too. That, to me, is a problem. But she's still young so hopefully she can do better in the future if ever that happens again (knock on wood that it doesn't).

Yeah same. I understand how uncomfortable she must've felt (it's happened to me once while performing and it really caught me off guard) but she's also a performer and while I fault the stylists for not managing their stage clothes better, Jennie also needs to think faster on her feet. She froze up which def took her teammates out of their zones as well. Hopefully it doesn't happen again but it's a learning process and hopefully she gets better at handling surprise events like this.

I watched the video, and while she was uncomfortable and had to take the time to settle it, she came back with energy. so there shouldn't really be issues. especially if the commenter way above said she had apologised.
