Twice talks new album and tour

Chart-smashing K-pop girl band TWICE is gearing up for their first solo concerts in United States cities with the release of their new album, "Fancy You," on Monday.
The six-track album marks a major stylistic change for the five-year-old girl group, whose shining and cheering music and dance have appealed widely to fans at home and abroad.
TWICE was the first K-pop girl band to throw concerts at Japanese domes, which accommodated a total of about 50,000 fans in the neighboring country.
This year, the nine-piece band is throwing its first world concert tour, which has nine stops, including, for the first time, four cities in North America, such as Los Angeles on June 17, Mexico City on June 19, as well as Newark and Chicago.
Ahead of the tour, TWICE dropped "Fancy You" on Monday, whose main track, "Fancy," freshly brings out the girl crush vibes of the girl band.
With "Fancy," a stylish pop dance number, the band's choreography added more power, precision and magnificence. The members' all-black stage costume adds bling to the stage performance of the new song.
"One of our goals for this album was to prove that we can bring out our new sides while we retain our existing image as an energetic, bright (girl band)," member Nayeon said in a press showcase of the new album.
"Coming back with the first Korean album for 2019 "Fancy You," I think, became a turning point for TWICE," member Chaeyoung noted.
Member Momo said it was "dream-like" to meet and entertain so many Onces, referring to the band's fandom name. "It was possible thanks to so many Onces," she said.
Asked about their approaching world tour, Nayeon said, "We became ambitious in terms of that. I had this wish to go all around the world to meet with Onces and show them our different sides."
Including "Fancy," the new album has six tracks, for four of which TWICE members wrote the lyrics.
Jihyo wrote the lines for the third track "Girls Like Us." "It was what I wanted to say as a 23-year-old to those who want to run way while running toward their dream," she said.
Sana wrote the lines for "Turn It Up," with a wish to "sing and enjoy with Once." Momo and Chaeyoung wrote the lyrics for "Hot" and "Strawberry," respectively.
Dahyun, who dyed her hair silver blue for this album, asked for special attention to the band's performance on stage and in the music video that features the members' disciplined group dance.

Date: 2019-04-23 01:20 am (UTC)This is their most cohesvie album. All tracks sound like they belong to one another and none that sticks put like a sore thumb (which is ALWAYS the case in their previous works).
Fancy as a title works for them, wasn’t expecting then to go full BP but it’s still different while retaining their sound.
Personal faves from the album are Hot, Girls Like Us & Strawberry.

I’m so happy with the mini album, it’s def their most cohesive to date. Will any of the b-sides dethrone Sunset? I’ll need to give them a few more listens.

Date: 2019-04-23 11:22 am (UTC)Now tho non of them seem eager to do solo stuff, and they all said it's more important to establish Twice's name as whole. So I do think they will re-sign

Date: 2019-04-23 11:41 am (UTC)that's an interesting take they have, i hope it's how they truly feel (in stead of what they are supposed / have to say to keep up their image etc.)
i have to say they have it all going for them though, they are still young enough and they have a good thing going for them, they seem to get along just fine and JYP groups usually last long and have good team work, which i truly appreciate
i would love to see some solo work in the future though or maybe sub-units to give them some different (individual) colors, i always love it when they cover other groups so ... i'm hopeful!

Date: 2019-04-23 01:04 pm (UTC)Fuck.. I wrote a whole ass essay and accidentally closed the page -_-Their team is kinda lax with them (they often talk about things in vlive that most other gg won't be allowed to) so I doubt they would stop them from expressing solo desires. To me it seems like fans want the girls to do solo work more than the girls themselves. Like Jeong in particular, whenever asked, has always said she doesn't want to do solo work, yet fans still want her to do it.
The only two whom I think may want to do it are Chaeng and Jihyo;
Chaeng cuz she hates Twice's sound & the cutesy image (she's loving this cb tho) and she might want to explore other styles in the future.
And Jihyo cuz she seems to be greedy (in a good way) to showcase more of her self. She did a short solo showcase a few years back and it was well received by the fans, and she seemed to enjoy it. She's responsible for writing some of Twice's best bsides, and she's the full package; super pretty, good singer, among the best dancers, and her charisma on stage is "burring hot baby". So maybe in future she'd want to do solo work, but for now she's never been against it, but hasn't expressed eagerness either.
But I agree, I really want to see Twice sub units, this way they can explore with their image more than they'd ever be able to with Twice, and the other girls can take a breather from their grueling schedule. So hopefully.

Date: 2019-04-24 07:11 am (UTC)i mean, that's totally fine, some people are more suitable for a group and some for solo
for example chungha's so much better solo, but when gfriend's sowon did a solo stage a while ago (i think with year end shows) she lacked so much that it was apparent she's better as a group artist
i think jihyo can hold herself because she has one of the strongest stage presences in the group, she can dance well and sings the best, she's indeed the full package
nayeon may be able to do it in the future if she works REALLY hard, but... i'm not sure
that's why sub-units would be great, also so the others can just relax a bit
at the same time, i wonder if the one of the reasons they don't want to do solo work now either is because of their schedule, i mean come on, all that extra work on top of all the work they already do? personally i wouldn't want to do it either and they probably know they are still lacking, so a few years may do them well

Date: 2019-04-24 04:27 pm (UTC)Jihyo works HARD on herself, and her improvement is unimaginable. She deserves all the credit and that solo, but I don't think she's gonna get it. Simply because JYP can't seem to know what to do with soloists. So maybe in the far future if she leaves the company, or when they're ready to allow the girls to drop a solo song or two...but to get a full album? I'm not so sure.
It could be, but I do think JYP wanting to push them as a team as much as possible is also influencing them. Like some may not feel confident enough to branch out on their own. Being in a group offers comfort, and good money, so they may not want to be exposed... yet. But I look forward to see what the future holds for them.

Date: 2019-04-23 10:08 am (UTC)I loved Fancy on first listen and after multiple replays, I still love it too. The mini album is really good too, more cohesive than their previous releases for me and I can't really pick a favourite from the bsides yet (whereas I could immediatly pick Sunset as a favourite in Yes or Yes, for example). Really hope it does well on charts!
