On April 15, YG Entertainment announced that BLACKPINK would be holding a Japanese dome tour this winter. Notably, BLACKPINK will be only the second K-pop girl group ever to hold a dome tour in Japan (following TWICE, who held their first Japanese dome tour this spring).

BLACKPINK will be performing at the Tokyo Dome on December 4, 2019; the Kyocera Dome on January 4 and 5, 2020; and the Fukuoka Yahuoku! Dome on February 22, 2020.

First thought: that’s amazing!!!!!
Second thought: wait... is this YG acting up again? overshooting demand and then tickets will be sold for less than face value because they ain’t selling?
It’s crazy that I can’t even be happy for his artists because I can’t trust nothing this man says

Damn, those dates are super far away. I feel like that’s unusual for kpop concerts but maybe that’s just me

they're ok for a kpop group. japan has a big touring culture though so they'll prob get a lot of attendance from casual kpop fans.

even ikon (who tour extensively in japan) have never done a dome tour or performed at tokyo dome. it’s crazy that twice have only performed at tokyo dome for the first time this year (iirc) and they’re huge in japan, and blackpink have done bare minimum in japan and are doing it at the end of this year.

SNSD did Tokyo dome but not a tour. And I'm not sure about the others but Tokyo dome is by invitation.

The Tokyo Dome in particular is invitation only, and is basically the Holy Grail of concert domes. Performing there is essentially proof that you're more than successful in Japan. You can have a dome tour without Tokyo Dome, but it's very rare for Kpop acts. TWICE was the first in 2019 and they got TD too. Most kpop acts do arena tours and then get invited to perform at TD.

The big firsts at TD: Rain was the first Korean act to perform there, TVXQ was the first K group/boy group, KARA was the first K girl group (1 yr before SNSD), EXO was the first K group to perform without any Japanese albums.

Edit: BP probably got TD because of their international success despite not being as popular as most kpop groups in Japan. My guess is they're going for international attendence vs mostly Japanese. (Sorry for edits, fixing grammar)

ok. i see. from what i see is if the most prestigious dome invited them, i can see why they want to just do the tour. also i heard, if TD invited the other just follow along (altho i'm not sure if it meant also inviting or for the agency to decide to just do the rest)

YG is such a sore loser he's becoming an embarrassment.

Have they done any promotion in Japan? Any original Japanese songs or just Japanese covers of their limited kpop songs?

Perhaps it's so far away because YG wants them to do Japanese promotions between now and then.

they have had promotions in japan whenever they had their first mini album but it was all rehashed songs that they have in korean. literally nothing is original. i am assuming??? they will release more music in japanese??

they really need some Japanese original songs with promotions I think. They have 8 months to do it. otherwise, I'm curious how they will fill seats.

yg had 9 months to give us ktl and it only had four songs on the mini and a remix of dddd

my expectations are beyond low

apparently their first concert sold well or that's what blinks keep saying lol

mmmmm well maybe if they released a full album in japan i can kinda see it for them in japan? they are going to need new music, like a new japan album+ + the three new solos could work for them, but this is YG we are tallking , we are still waiting for that full album :/

Maybe I have been out of the loop with K-Pop in general but I thought Tokyo Dome used to be the venue that not just anybody could perform in. I remember SNSD not performing there until way into their careers and after releasing several successful Japanese albums.

I guess the way they are managed just rubs me the wrong way. I really wanted to go to their concert in Amsterdam but paying 170 euros for a group as unestablished as they are? No. Considering how small the venue is and how you are not guaranteed to have a good spot (first come, first serve), that is an investment that is not worth it.

I was hoping they would lower the ticket prices since they are not even close to selling out but so far nothing happened.
