Congrats to them! I dont know if it was just a ton of blinks replaying the mv like crazy but it will be good press for them. I definitely prefer their mv to ariana’s aesthetics wise

ARMY must be seething.

Other than the cultural appropriation, the MV was great! Such eye-candy! I replayed it multiple times! On mute obviously because the song is hot garbage.

Just think if YGE promoted them properly.

I'm happy for the girls, the video is visually great (I personally would've loved more of the Lara Croft-aesthetics). It hasn't been that long since their Stephen Colbert performance either so I hope they'll gain more attention. Lord knows YG won't do anything to help them out.
Although I imagine this will last only until whenever BTS comes back (haven't kept up with any dates).

They served looks in the MV. The wigs were powerful (except Lisa’s box braids. 🤢)

i bet they could be a phenom at or above bts' level, but imagining yg properly promoting their female artists is "what if the world was made of pudding" level useless.

so sad since they have the potential. how do they still not have a full album yet??

this whole caring only about views thing is starting to bother me more and more and more

From: [identity profile] aures.livejournal.com
it seriously has zero to do with the quality of the music or the artists and it just bothers me so much
these fans need to stop putting their artists on a pedestal

also, these fans probably do not consider how much it can mess with the artist or company's brain? like they are getting so used to getting new records with every comeback, it can get addicting - imagine at some point it's not possible anymore for a group or artist to achieve and they will crash down, it must be mentally tough let's be real

iawic and imo we can already see what it does to artists & fans alike when they don't chart high on everything, they think they're not "good enough" (got7 comes to mind and how at one point they had to reassure their fans that it's ok they didn't happen to win on some music show, that being nr. 1 isn't everything).

I mean I can't speak for idols but you can see fans esp feed into the mentality that many awards equal how "good" a song/artist is, and I don't doubt artists (idols especially in the kind of system they're bred in) also think like this. And taking to account what you said re: last paragraph, there's nothing constructive about this, but I wonder if idols or fans realize this!

what does iawic stand for? i came as far as: i agree with ..... (lol)

yes, i feel for got7 sometimes, they are doing SO WELL and yet their fans feel like they don't because they do not win ALL of the awards/prices/records/etc. their physical sales are to die for tbh and a lot of artists can only dream about their success - like JYP himself ones said, digital sales are nice, but physical sales says it all and proves how popular an artist really is and if they do not win because they don't have the digital sales or the mv views? you know what? who cares? suju for example.. or TVXQ hasn't been winning anything in ages but they are still doing really really well for themselves, wins are not everything

agreed, i don't think they do!

Lol it was supposed to be iawtc which is "I agree with this comment" (tho actually I thought it meant "I Agree With This Completely" but looking it up just now that's not the case oop, anyways almost the same meaning)

I think the newer generation of kpop fans especially are even more focused on the charts and don't think about things like, the quality and the natural growth of an artist or about their faves making songs that last the test of time instead of doing songs that are instant chart-toppers only to be pushed aside for the next best thing. It's so frustrating and annoying.

agreed, for artists who took it a lot longer to reach number 1 i feel like they are a lot stronger these days because they had to learn what it took to grow and to reach number 1, if that makes sense?
for a "top group" like BP i feel like they are extremely lacking and they do not represent the best kpop artists when it comes down to talent etc. and i'm not here trying to shame them or whatever, they are cute girls but they need a LOT more growth in order for them to reach the top group status they currently have

Date: 2019-04-11 09:44 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] camouflagecat.livejournal.com
The BP girls ARE talented and beautiful (sometimes I feel like them being beautiful is like one of the main reasons they're so popular which is kinda ehhh it's up for discussion whatever that means lol) so they deserve to be idols, but their explosive fame really is kinda weird to me. Being a new YG gg definitely boosted their shot to fame but how did they become such yt view count monsters?? Their songs are catchy and the MV have high replay value, but for me the contrast between their image YG gave them and their real personalities just takes away from the credibility, or the fact that they don't write their own songs/lyrics (afaik, and I understand idols at the start of their careers rarely do), then on top of that the fact that they've had so few comebacks and a tragically small discography in relation to how long they've been active, it does look like their fame is earned by other means that the musical/performer credibility y'know? But I blame YG entirely, the girls have no power over the decisions made in their career.

Date: 2019-04-11 10:02 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aures.livejournal.com
yes absolutely! i did not mean that they do not deserve it, but what i rather mean is that there are idols active that have been in the industry for the same amount of time but have grown a lot more? sometimes i feel with YG it's like "well they are already this popular so why put in the extra effort if the result will be the same" (meaning: views/sales/etc.)
and the girls are super cute and whenever they do a "cuter" (or fresher) side track they are a lot more happy?! like, why not give them that??? personally i think forever young was a lot better for them, it was a little brighter and it suited their style/personalities much better, i don't get why YG is pushing their artists so hard into a mold that doesn't fit them

i mean, that's why i kind of like cube? and i'm not saying i like/like cube, but they let their artists compose and try a WHOLE LOT of concepts until they find something they like or produce their own stuff, i can really appreciate that, but with YG i feel like they are really stuck

Oh yeah sorry I wasn't implying you discredited them, was just speaking generally lol.
I guess YG just has one tactic that they've had success with before so they don't see any point in changing it. Also maybe the "girlcrush" concept is seen as more easily marketable overseas and you know YG wants that western validation (and money).

It also gives a false impression of their popularity. Breaking these records or getting millions of views on your videos suggests that your band is a top star and known internationally, when in reality most of these views are from their fans streaming it 24/7 on every device they own.

Date: 2019-04-11 06:51 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aures.livejournal.com
agreed! i mean, look at how black pink "flopped" with their concerts, that was a total misunderstanding from YG and just stupid tbh, i mean, we all know that it's the same X fans that are streaming (where do they even find the time? i still haven't watched the MV and i can not imagine i will lol), how can YG not know this?

it must be mentally really tiring and a let down when it LOOKS like you are very popular but you are not that much? i know i would feel bumped and sad

Date: 2019-04-11 08:53 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] goshipgurl.livejournal.com
They don't actively stream, they set their phone/computer volume to almost mute and stream while they sleep.

I mean, they have tons of fans in (south east) asia, but in the US or other western countries they still are a niche group, they're only popular on the internet.
