Also, it's natural for a band's sound to change and evolve over time depending on the local music scene.

When TRAX first debuted, SM's goal was to be groundbreaking and at the head of a new music movement with the mainstream crowd. Obviously, that didn't work out, and their sound was changed to fit in more with the public's music taste. Right now, that happens to be pop-rock. It's not about being a rock band or not, because they still are in essence. They've just chosen to abandon the Visual Kei hard rock image they started out with for a more mature, easier to accept concept.

Based on the fact that these songs were written by Jay and Jungmo personally, it's obvious that this is the style of music that they want to pursue.
