The first episode was a downer but after that it got good. I like the focus on a divorced woman returning to the workforce. I also like the workplace being a book publisher. All the actors have good chemistry. The opening and closing credits sequences are charming. Winter is my favorite fashion season for dramas, it amuses me that they wear different coats each day. Overall it’s an enjoyable romantic comedy.
For those that complain about Lee Jong-seok ‘s nose it looks like he fixed it, his nostrils definitely look smaller than before.

it was a downer, but I happened to watch it when I was really upset so I liked that she got back up in the end (it is definitely influencing my emotional response to her. )

I like all the coats, and her long skirts, but I was annoyed at the make-over scene, the clothes they showed us were lame. I don't like kdrama fixation of fussy sweaters.

Whenever she wears a giant sweater I just tell myself she’s borrowing his clothes. I rather that then the outfits where she has bare legs in the winter. Also the makeover was pointless cause she has the exact same hairstyle.

the hair bit was beyond ridiculous, but at least they threw a smattering of inclusion in there.

It also drives me crazy when we have super poor heroines who have expensively dyed hair. I mean, maybe that red brown isn't hard to achieve anymore, but maintenance has to be money.

How did I miss that dress? It’s pretty.

I loved that coat as well, it was so cute! Watching k-dramas always end up with me browsing online shopping malls... which I suppose is the point, damn it!

His nose definitely looks like it's been fixed. It took me 2-3 episodes to figure out why he looks so different. I was so happy because I've been so distracted watching him in his last two Korean dramas.

I only noticed after someone else pointed it out. I hope he’s satisfied with the change and leaves it alone.

His nose looked a bit off again in ep 5(??), I think. The scene where he's talking to Danyi after getting out of the shower and she's working on an idea for the book. But for the rest of the ep it looked fine.

The official synopsis leaves out some pertinent information, and sounds a bit boring, but I hope people give it a try. Additional information: it's a noona romance, best friends to lovers, and some co-habitation hijinks.

I LOVE Kang Dan-i. And LJS, who is what you would expect from a drama lead, has a great quality: he too recognizes that Kang Dan-i is stellar.

I generally like romance, but I'm old enough that I am no longer here for the Boys Over Flowers variety, or for the child-like sweet, clumsy Candy heroine. Kang Dan-i is an adult, talks like an adult, acts like an adult, and after she falls, she pushes herself to get back up. I love her, and I am so thrilled to have a heroine who I can be inspired by and cheer for.

And I'm convinced the writer is using side characters to mock some other drama/real life things. Like, we have a resident male expert who is always loud and insistent, and yet is always wrong. Just like in real life! (though he's not a bad guy.)

And we have a mean girl office lady, but we also have a mean girl office lady who isn't actually, just like in real life!

I hope people want to come analyze and squee with me; I get to watch episode 6 today but I'm trying to wait so I can be inspired by Kang Dan-i before going to work tomorrow.

Glad someone else is enjoying it. I also like how they mocked how some people use and misuse social network sites.

I think they're definitely (gently) mocking a lot of things, it's great. And I love every time she brings up sex and he can't handle it. It's the opposite of how it usually is.

I'm just happy to get an adult woman who acts like one, and to have the book publisher also have adult women who act like women. It's so nice and refreshing! And I'm trying to ignore the niggling negatives.

Yes she’s a woman with experience, a past, history. Not the typical drama heroine who is 30 and has never kissed.

I'm excited for Jongsuk's new drama but it such a downer that its romcom. :(( I personally think its a waste for his acting talent to act in such simple production just like how I feel about Bogum's Encounter.

I watched 2 episodes so far and it was okay and interesting. I just expect more from Jongsuk after his back to back good dramas.

But yay for Jongsuk to finally act with his fave actress the very famous Lee Na Young. I wonder whether he's super nervous like he did while filming W with Han Hyo Joo. :P

struggling with some of the disillusionment that comes as you get a bit older and look around and go .... "this?" really strikes home for me too. The fact that she is trying to push past it and still finds joy in things really resonates for me.

I'm glad you love her too! Hopefully she'll stay loveable, unlike a certain Secretary Kim.

btw, there are a couple friendship shows, I just haven't watched enough of them (I like romance.) I suspect Keyfelt will have some recommendations, I'll try to remember to ask on one of his/her posts in the future.

That line you mention really resonated with me as well. I'm not sure if Dani's character is meant to be depressed or not, because it seems like it but since this is Korean society we probably won't see it mentioned. The drama feels very honest though and I like that. The fact that Dani is over 30 is great as well.

From: [identity profile] chimpansee.livejournal.com
I love that the trend for k-drama leading women has become mature women with a good head on their shoulders. Dani isn't perfect but she feels like an actual real human being who sometimes makes bad decisions, but at least she's not a damsel in distress waiting for some asshole oppa to treat her like shit to her face and save her behind her back. Her living in Eunho's house without permission felt creepy af to me though.

In my country only 2 episodes have been available yet so I can't say too much but I like the story so far. It really tackles an interesting problems within Korean society (divorce in general, women in the workplace, how divorcees are treated, etc). Also the fact that Eunho's ex was in a relationship with a woman and the way it was mentioned so casually surprised me but I also really liked it. I hope these sort of small nods to LGBT relationships can continue in the future (so that, one day, perhaps...). I don't know if I'm ready for a triangle romance with shoe-umbrella guy but I love the way the drama is filmed until now and I'll be watching!

Are the subs pretty good on Netflix? Do they still use the Korean soundtrack. I’ve had bad past experiences. 😑

I've watched some episodes of Mr. Sunshine in spanish and they are good to me. I generally watch dramas in english because spanish subs are bad, but I had no problem with Mr. Sunshine in Netflix.

They use the korean soundtrack in Mr. Sunshine but they don't sub the songs (which is a shame).

oh man i wish i had the will power to watch w spanish subs and work on my spanish but the idea of listening to korean while reading spanish while translating it to english in my head sounds exhausting.

it would be so awesome if they subbed songs but that would be above and beyond.

At first it's hard, but I would recommend doing it to everybody, because it forces you to learn and understand the language.

The thing is, you need to think, read and talk (in yous head) in the language you are reading, don't translate it. That's the basic rule we're taught in any language class and it really works. In general, if I don't know a word, at first I try to get the meaning from the context, and just if I still don't understand it, I look for its meaning in my language. In my case, spanish is my first language, so I watch all my dramas with english or portuguese subs to practice, and doing that allowed me to re-gain and improve my english skills after not using it for two years.

I had some problems with the english subs in Netflix, that's the only reason why I watch things with spanish subs there, lol.

They use the Korean soundtrack. The subs are ok but they are the type that say Danyi when he is calling her Noona, he even has her name in his phone as Noona. Little details like that annoy me because it’s an important part of a Noona romance.

yes! same here!
everyone i read subs and they aren't saying exactly how it's supposed to be it loses meaning in the drama.
that'll irk me but i'll tyr it out. comments are making it seem kind of more fun then the synopsis.

I'm indifferent to LJS (though sometimes his face makes me uncomfortable, like his skin hurts from over exfoliation) but so far it's really about her. He's just kind of your normal kdrama super love interest, which is ok because she's awesome.

That has been my thought. First drama on Netflix. I feel like a lot of cultural things integral to KDrama are missed in their subs.

It’s lazy subbing. Just explain it once then use Noona for the rest of the subtitles. I don’t understand how professional translators get away with providing less detail than amateur subbbers. International fans need to be told that the age hierarchy is important.

I say yes. Thus far, it's doing what What's Wrong with Secretary Kim didn't with the female lead (see comments above).

Happy to see so many comments on a drama discussion post! I'm avoiding reading comments since I haven't watched yet, but I downloaded the first two episodes from Netflix to watch on my flight right now and hopefully I'll get caught up soon and pop back in here.

why you're here ... someone upthread mentioned the lack of kdramas with adult women being friends... without a romantic angle. I figured you might know some .... know some?

(Like hello my twenties wouldn't qualify, cause they're not really adults.)

Enjoy your trip!

Finally caught up! I'm really liking this show, thanks for talking about it OP! I love Dan-i so far, she is such a real person that doesn't seem like a Drama Character. I'm invested in her getting a happy ending and feeling useful and fulfilled in her job. I think Eun Ho loving her is cute, but I probably could do without the romance.

So far I'm really digging the office people, the characters are fun. I enjoy the boss, he's a hoot but also seems to be a good friend to Eun Ho. I really like Hae Rin. I thought umbrella/green onion guy was a cutie until he went all intense asking about the missing author. Now I'm :/ even though he has a cute face and a cute dog.

I've been in a drama slump for months that was only broken by SKY Castle and I'm glad for this cute drama to help keep me in drama watching mode.

I finally watched, I'm gonna regret starting a show that is coming out in phases bc I love to binge lol but Lee Jong Suk is one of my faves, but I still think his nose looks off as hell lol. It's too small for his face and always has been. He is playing the same character he always does lol it's too much. And he is especially wearing way too light makeup in this show.

I love the actor for the designer!! The brother from Something in the Rain. Not me shipping Kang Dani with him over LJS but it is what it is LOL. I just like his face.

I looove Kang Dan-i omg she is too good of a person!!! I want her to succeed so bad. That one lady at their company is horrible omfg i Hate her

Your description of LJS's appearance may encapsulate why I can't really embrace him.
