f(x)’s Luna appeared on the January 30 broadcast of MBC’s “Radio Star” and talked about the difficulties she’s faced trying to succeed as a solo artist. Luna mentioned in her interview with the writers of the show that she would approach filming with the mindset of a rookie artist, and when asked about it, she said with conviction, “Yes, I’m a rookie!”

The hosts mentioned it’s been 10 years since she debuted, and she said, “No, no, this is my third year. The reason why I say that is because with f(x), I’ve won No. 1 and have been on the top of search rankings, but as a solo artist, even something that might easily be a success [with f(x)] doesn’t work out. On my own, things don’t go the way that I imagine.”

She added, “And it also seems that [SM] won’t spend as much for my solo promotions compared to the group.”

Cha Tae Hyun joked, “So that’s why you must be having thoughts about leaving.” Luna, alarmed, said, “No, that’s not it, that’s not it. I will work hard, with the mindset of a rookie artist, from the bottom up.” When Kim Gu Ra asked how her new solo album is doing, Luna immediately responded, “It’s not good. Not good.”

Luna also talked about her beauty YouTube channel. She said, “It’s so fun, and it feels like I’m finding myself through it. Having just a camera there — it’s not like there’s anyone around — and talking and replying to myself is so fun.”

She said it’s her own account, and that though SM is known to be pretty strict, they aren’t that way with her channel. “They’ll encourage me to show my real self.” When the topic of profits came up, Luna said, “Legally, profits are split with SM. They take a lot. SM takes too much!”

Luna revealed the account fully becomes her own starting in August and asked fans to start watching more starting then.

That being said, her releases just aren't it for me (let me stress that FOR ME part).
I can't think of a single title track I'd like to listen to a second time. (She had some good b-sides though) but everything pretty much falls flat for me. Just not my cup of tea I guess


As for the youtube channel, considering SM is likely to be the one paying for the space, lights, camera, editing, producing... it's no surprise they'd take a huge part of the profits. It's often the case, even for big youtubers, most of those who work with a team anyway

I LOVED Free Somebody and bought the album but everything since has not been it. But I've also felt that way about 90% of SM's releases in the last few years.

damn, i thought it was just me lol XD i really want to stan her and i want her to slay but her releases are doing nothing for me. she should be showing off her vocals and dance skills. she needs to release something that makes her shine, not something forgettable or safe.

i wonder if she'll even be putting out more music anytime soon. it sounded like she's going to be continuing as a solo artist for a while now
i think she needs like a boa-esque song to really make a splash. that and maybe a better production budget from SM 😒

no, woman only sold like 8.5k, which is painful for such an established artist
she does better in Japan, but even there her sales have dropped tremendously

agreed, though tvxq does really REALLY well in Japan and suju still sells decent, not like in the old days, but still decent - and indeed, they make a lot of money from concerts, so they don't have to worry about money (yet), thank god

snsd unit sold pretty well though, considering zero promo

I think SNSD will sell well regardless and it was their first comeback as a new sub-unit, so it was bound to do well, even without promo since people were curious about how it would look/sound/etc.

With that said, I love Luna's voice and she is a great dancer but she lacks charisma and stage presence for me. I think as part of a group, she is an excellent main vocal because the others are just so charismatic that they bring the energy up. Fx should just be resurrected, I love their music.

Luna I'm rooting for you!! All of f(x), really. I miss the group so much, but I'm glad Luna was at least able to get this TV appearance.
