On January 30, MBC’s “True Story Exploration Party” (literal title) dug into the controversy surrounding former SECHSKIES member Kang Sung Hoon and his fanclub Hoony World.

Over the last year, Kang Sung Hoon had come under fire for issues including a canceled fan meeting in Taiwan that had not been refunded properly, poor management on the part of his fan club, and accusations of embezzling the profits from a video screening event for SECHSKIES’ 20th debut anniversary that were to meant be donated to those in need.

The brother of Hoony World’s moderator appeared on “True Story Exploration Party” and told his side of the story, revealing that Hoony World is registered under his name but was run by his younger sister and Kang Sung Hoon. He further shared, “My younger sister and Kang Sung Hoon are married under common law. Hoony World has no employees. Kang Sung Hoon is the head, and my sister is the plan maker. They share their profits with each other.”

Common-law marriage is a marriage that has not been legally registered but reflects what a marriage entails in all other ways.

The brother continued, “The amount of taxes in arrears for Hoony World are over 20 million won (approximately $18,000) and I now have bad credit. Kang Sung Hoon has not contacted me about paying me back. My sister has told me to wait, but she broke her promise three times already. I can’t get in contact with her either. They don’t seem to be willing to resolve the issue and are continuously lying, so I decided that I must reveal this.”

Prior to the broadcast, Kang Sung Hoon had made a request to the court to ban the broadcast on the basis of defamation. However, the 21st civil affairs department of the Seoul Western District Court dismissed the charges and the episode was broadcasted as planned.

I'm curious to know if she met him as a fan or if they got together and then thought it was a good idea for her to manage his fan club.

Iirc, she met him as a fan. I read a while back on twitter that she liked him and managed to land a gig working as a stylist for J-WALK (sub-unit of his band mates), but that she failed to meet him through that, so then she joined his church (he became religious again after he went to jail for the first money scandal - which was part his fault part the loanshark's, so I think it ended up being repealed after he was in prison for some months and the fault was found with the other guy. not a lot of legit translations, so I have to depend upon what fans say, unfortunately). Anyway, she got the pastor to like her and introduce her to him. It doesn't sound like a very healthy relationship to me.

Yeah, like I think a lot of his urgent scandal with being sued is him being bad with finances and business and getting screwed over by business partners in Taiwan and then not handling it well, but part of it is also of his own making. He shouldn't have had his gf or friends or family running his fan club. The reason why artists work with agencies is for them to sort out these sorts of problems when they arise so that the artist doesn't have to worry about it or face the backlash. Anyway, I haven't taken time yet to have ifans reactions, but I'm sure most fans aren't pleased that he lied about his relationship with his gf and that she's his fan club admin.

Also, yeah the fact that he's with a fan imo points out to me that he craves the validation and adoration. Like, there's a huge difference between someone who liked your music and someone who specifically pursues you because she's your fan. It's very arrested development.
