[TW] Seungri's club Burning Sun under fire after assault scandal allegation

On January 28, MBC’s “News Desk” revealed a CCTV footage of the assault at Burning Sun, a club owned by BIGBANG’s Seungri. The assault took place last year in Gangnam.

Mr. Kim, who claims to be the victim, was allegedly attacked by the security guards at the club but was arrested as the assailant.

Previously, Mr. Kim posted on online community Bobaedream about the incident. He wrote, “On November 24 at Burning Sun, a woman who was being sexual harassed grabbed my shoulder and hid behind me. I asked a security guard for help, but I ended up getting beat up by the security guards and people who seemed like their friends.” He claimed that he was put in handcuffs and taken to the police station, where he was further assaulted by the police. To support his claims, he put up a photo of his bleeding face and another photo of him receiving medical treatment at the hospital. Some of the injuries Mr. Kim suffered included three broken ribs, which would take five weeks to heal completely.

In the newly revealed CCTV footage, several security guards drag Mr. Kim out of the club and make him fall on the ground. The club’s CEO Mr. Jang grabs the man by his hair, hits him in the face, drags him out into the road, and continues to beat him. The security guards grab onto Mr. Kim and help Mr. Jang assault him.

At an interview with “News Desk,” Mr. Kim stated, “One person took the lead in beating me and the security guards helped out. It was extremely shameful. I remember everyone was watching me.” When Mr. Jang and the security guards returned to the club, Mr. Kim called the police and reported the incident.

When the police arrived at the scene after 10 minutes, they spoke with a representative from the club and put handcuffs on Mr. Kim. According to Mr. Kim, the police did not attempt to search for Mr. Jang, look inside the club, or check the CCTV footage.

In a document explaining the reasons for Mr. Kim’s arrest, Mr. Kim was written as the assailant and Mr. Jang was written as the victim. When “News Desk” reached out to the club and police to hear their thoughts, a source from the club stated that Mr. Kim was charged for sexual harassment, while the police stated that Mr. Kim was arrested for obstruction of business. In addition, the police said that they are investigating both assaults, including the allegations of Mr. Kim’s sexual harassment inside the club.

Later, Mr. Kim shared through social media, “The police has summoned me due to Mr. Jang’s accusation against me for defamation. Don’t make me come and go, you come to the court. I’m going to report you to the prosecution so let’s make clear who got defamed.”

Police Gives Official Statement About Assault Case At Club Owned By Seungri

On January 29, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated through an official press release, “At the time of our arrival, Mr. Kim was overly emotional and refused to reveal his personal information. We were attempting to verify the report that he had assaulted the security guards and caused a disturbance, but Mr. Kim continued to cause a commotion, which is why he was arrested for business obstruction, among other reasons.”

They also stated, “We have secured evidence such as CCTV footages of the surrounding areas and are currently in the process of looking into them. We have also called Mr. Jang in for an investigation. Several cases are being investigated simultaneously, including the statement from a representative of the club and their countercharge against Mr. Kim. Mr. Kim is currently refusing to come in for an investigation.”

They concluded with the words, “We will engage in the investigation carefully and meticulously to ensure that no one is falsely accused.”

(Unconfirmed) A few weeks after the incident, another woman was forced to VIP room at this club after drinking rape drugs. A guilty conscience-stricken club employee unveiled a CCTV showing a woman being dragged to the VIP room by club guard. She asked help but Club employees ignored her. (x)

There is an article reporting that the director of the club spoke up, he released the CCTV footage, said that Mr, Kim (the one who issued the complaint at first) was seen in the footage approaching female clients several times and the guests kept complaining about him. He also mentioned Seungri, 'although many articles are reporting it as 'Seungri's club' but Seungri wasn't at the club that day and he doesn't run things there.
The CCTV footages will be admitted to the police for thorough investigations.

Burning Sun posted on their IG that the woman in the video stole a vip drink, refused to leave/attacked staff and was dragged outside/arrested. (x)


It is unclear if Seungri was at the club at that night and regardless about that, if he knew about what is going on in his club. The alleged assault of Mr. Kim happened on Nov 24 (not sure if it was the night from Nov 23rd to Nov 24th or the night from Nov 24th to Nov 25th). There are pictures of Seungri and Hyeoyeon celebrating the release party of Punk Right Now on the night from Nov 23rd to Nov 24th.

Till now soompi only reported about Mr. Kim's assault accusations. There are rumors about accusations of men intoxicating women and raping them in the club, the club paying off the police and organized crime. A government petition that over 90K people already signed is asking the government to thoroughly investigate the case and bring out the truth.

Regardless of how people attempt to re frame this situation, Seungri is involved. He has said countless times that he is more than just a "ceo" label and is actively involved in his businesses so the narrative that he couldnt have ~known~ this was going on is highkey BS. Also bribing of law enforcement seems to be commonplace, bribing is no cheap thing how could seungri not know?

And with the possibility of him being not involved, his reaction to this situation makes him complicit.

This! He's the owner of the club, and he has the power to shut the place down and submit to an investigation but yet we've only heard radio silence while the club has released multiple statements thus far.

I don't follow him so I don't know how involved he is with the business but any good owner should be aware of what's going on with his business and I do believe that he knew about the violence and decided to ignore/bury it.

I've been trying to keep up with this since last night. There needs to an investigation into that club and police department, the Mr. jang's accusations is irrelavent when there's video evidence of them holding the guy and beating him, if he was causing problems simply removing him like they did and calling the police would be the proper response.

The video with the girl is proof that they have issues with violence and it probably would have continued on if that cctv footage was not released. The club apparently fired the main man that assaulted Mr. Kim but it sounded like it was only done now (correct me if I'm wrong.)

Edit to add: Just how was the cctv footage of the woman being dragged away acquired? If it was released by someone that works within some capacity with the club wouldn't they be able to tell if she was being dragged towards the VIP room?

The report above does not give me the sense that Mr. Kim is particularly reliable here. Why are we assuming that he wasn't being a creep to women? That his refusal to cooperate with the police was reasonable? Etc.

If you are resorting to assault to eject someone from a club then you should be charged for a crime.
If you own a club or have stake in such an enterprise that is conducting itself in such an egregious way, you should be releasing a statement about it.
