Three-and-a-half weeks ago, Omonians of all nations, cultures and sexual orientations (except straight men who, lbr, do not comment here) rang in 2019 with festive cheer thanks to the journalistic integrity of Dispatch, breaking the news that King of Dance Kai was dating Queen of Lazy Jennie (I kid!): ((BREAKING) (CONFIRMED) SHE'S NO LONGER SOLOLOLOLO: KAI AND JENNIE ARE DATING!

In a scandal that did not even lost as long as my Pelosi's Government shut down, it is with GREAT REGRET THAT I ANNOUNCE THAT TRUE LOVE IS DEAD. Kai and Jennie have broken up. The news has been confirmed by SM Entertainment themselves (once again beating YG to the punch, HA!).

On January 25, SM Entertainment revealed, “It is true that Kai and Jennie have recently parted ways.”

The agency did not reveal the time or reason for their breakup. However, according to a previously published report, Kai and Jennie have decided to maintain their original senior-junior relationship. The report revealed that both were focused on their work and chose this decision for their respective groups and fans.

The report continued, “Kai and Jennie will do their best in their respective fields. They’ve agreed to support each other.”

but wow yesterday i was jennie's sisterwife and today i'm not. no, just kidding. but it definitely could be that they were just starting to get to know one another but got overwhelmed with all the exposure. the thing with these couple reveals is that everyone expects them to be in love love when (just like in the real world) people just want to hang out and see where it goes. it could also be that yg forced her to break things off, who knows.

i don't really follow jennie that closely but was it really that visible that yg was "punishing" her or was it just fans being dramatic?

i don't follow her that closely either...but i don't think YG was punishing her in the ridiculous ways k-netizens were claiming (specifically choosing "unflattering" pictures of her to send out to the media, etc.); however, considering how incredibly sexist both YG and the kpop industry as a whole are when it comes to female idols dating, and where jennie's at in her career right now, i bet YHS was pissed and wouldn't put it past him to exert pressure on her to ~prioritize her career for the good of the group~ and all that jazz

They've been seeing each other since October and were probaby still getting to know each.Being exposed and the shit that came with it probably didn't help at all so it's understandable that they'd end it.

I don't think this was a fake relationship like some are saying.Kai alluded to depression when he was getting bashed for Kaistal, I doubt he'd risk that again. Plus he seemed genuine when he was telling fans he hoped they'd date and stuff like that a month ago

This is so funny to me. So this either was a fwb situation like Seolhyun and Zico or (and this is what I assume) YG made them break up for the media and they're still together. But it really is disgusting how netizens and YG treated a 23 year old woman for having a boyfriend. And you know he's punishing her extra hard as a warning to the other members.

This is sad. The whole “outing” of relationships in SK will always leave a bad taste in my mouth. Like you’re forced to hide but then it won’t even matter because you’ll get exposed at some point.
