That's amazing that Lisa is the 2nd most followed female idol after only being on there for a year, but I wonder how much content quality factors into it vs actual celeb popularity (and also how many of them get fake followers) because some of the rankings are quite unexpected. Like I didn't know Sehun and Chanyeol were -that- popular and thought IU would be much higher? I would've expected there to be more women in the top 10 :/

why though? k-pop boy groups tend to have dedicated stans rather than casual fans, so it makes sense that fans would want to follow them on instagram to see everything. i'm actually surprised taeyeon is in the top 10. i thought it would only be blackpink there since boy group stans act like they're the only girl group that exists

Yeah I guess hoped would've been a better choice of words than expected - I just feel like girls often have more active, personal feeling or aesthetically pleasing Instagrams (thinking of accounts like Rainbow's Jisook and Jaekyungs which feel really diary-ish) and just find dude Instagrams so boring! Maybe I'm not following the right ones, lol. I follow quite a few female celebrities even though I don't really follow their careers because they have pleasing accounts but men, not so much.

I actually really like the Blackpink accounts because they seem to love taking lots of photos all the time, but I think Krystal for example also has a great account because it has that casual but aspirational feel to it (like you'd follow it even if you weren't an f(x) fan), but you're right in that it's a popularity ranking for the idols as much as it is for their accounts. I think with Taeyeon the fact that it was the first real individual (I think) sns account for an SNSD member to directly interact with the fans with that made it so hugely popular.

yeah krystal's account is really nice. her photos are so artistic too. with blackpink it just seems like whenever someone recommends a kpop girl group to someone else its always blackpink at least among international fans. you barely hear about others. and you're right that taeyeon was one of the first to have an individual account. people are really craving to see idols' individual personalities

Male groups have many more loyal followers than female groups as a majority of their fans are females. Male fans of female groups are more fickle. I knew Chanyeol was popular, and I can see why, but I was always a little ??? about Sehun's popularly lol.

SNSD has a pretty strong female fan base, so I credit that to part of their success, too.
