yep, definitely agree about his range! something i noticed is that sometimes he attempts like vocal runs or adlibs or whatever you call them and they don't always sound as good as he probably intends them to! i know there is one song in particular where he added his own adlibs in the past but i honestly can't recall which song that was anymore! i just remember that it was on the setlist of their eyes on you tour as well because i remember that he tried that adlib at one of their concerts that i attended and his attempt made me cringe lkdsfjhgkjglhg i don't wnna be mean or anything but yeah, like you said, he tends to go off-key a lot. :/ he has so much more room to improve!

Loool I'm really blinded by my bias as well but I've seen people... discussing about JY's vocals this promo round and I DO hear where his "weak areas" are, which I'm been aware of before.

I mean I acknowledge Youngjae is a way better singer what comes to technique and range, but there's just things I love about JY (his tone, his expressions when he sings plus literally everything else about his persona asdfg) that make him my favorite, BUT ia they should've utilized Youngjae more.

Maybe I was one of the ones that were a bit harsh on Yugyeom, but its just that he doesn't seem to sing with any support. LIke all the sound is coming from his throat which is why i think his sound comes off as nasally or whiny. I think it's something that you have to consciously practice until it's second nature.

i'm not very versed in that but speaking of singing techniques. i sometimes hear ppl say that jinyoung uses that classic jype technique of half-sound half-air or whatever it's called and idk if it's true but a lot of times, i do hear him singing the way i /think/ that technique is supposed to sound like and idk, i feel like it works to his disadvantage sometimes!! like he gets breathy at moments where i feel like he /shouldn't/ because it makes him sound kinda breathless and it would sound better if he went all out with his voice. i think he uses that technique in "my youth", doesn't he? and for that song imo it fits but there are other songs (that i can't think of right now lsdfglfh) where i wish he didn't :o idk

I think I still don't quite understand what the half-sound half-air technique is supposed to be (just the name of it doesn't sound very good to me tbh lol). Having one technique you teach multiple different singers instead of catering to their voice and its strengths just sounds so counterproductive to me! (this is not just about JYPE but YG I feel like has his weird techniques he forces on his singers as well)

I feel like on the scale of Youngjae - Jinyoung - Yugyeom, Youngjae has the most stable vocals with the best support and Yugyeom is just... well, on the other end of the scale lmao and Jinyoung is somewhere in the middle. He sounds mostly pretty stable and is a reliable vocalist in their songs most of the time but then sometimes he sounds like he forces the notes out with a harsh finish(?), like he's not a singer that "belts" and his voice sounds like it's about to give in lol (or so it sounds to me, idk what the right terminology is), he's more reliable in his falsettos when it comes to high notes.

But idk is this a technique that's been taught him and would he be able to relax his voice if taught differently, idk! At least he seems to be constantly improving his vocals which is enjoyable for a fan to hear :3

I agree, I wouldn't call Jinyoung a power vocalist, but he does have a fairly stable voice compared to Yugyeom. And I love that its got such a warm color. I was living for it during their Tomorrow, Today era and how it contrasted with JB's brighter, sometimes harsher vocals.

I wouldn't have known it was him on King of Masked singer. Not until close to the end when he had to sing some higher notes that I finally recognized his voice. He's come a long way.

ah no worries! I just know I had written a rant on their vocals on their Music Bank performance and like 80% of it was me going off on poor Yugyeom.

I'm also definitely blinded by bias. Jaebum is not the best vocalist by any means and I also don't usually like the color of his voice in other singers (he tends to this really bright sound).

And I wish I knew more to comment on that half sound half air technique. There is a KPop vocal analysis blog but they've only done JB and Youngjae in this group. :/ Jinoyoung sounded amazing when he was on masked singer, and he didn't sound breathy there at least not that I remember. It may have been that he was able to sing in his range? Which is lower than most of Got7's songs I think...

They all look good, but I really can't get into this song. I think it's because Yugyeom has always been my least favorite vocal in GOT7 (nothing personal, just a preference) and he has the most lines in this out of everyone. And since Youngjae's my fave, I'm kinda salty that he only barely has more lines than the rap line. Like, why release a ballad song if you're not going to use one of your main vocalists to their full potential? I don't get it.

I think he has potential as a vocalist, but yeah he's definitely unstable. I think for the most part though he just has one of those voices that can be really divisive, kinda like Park Bom's, and idk, his tone (especially with how he's been singing recently) just isn't for me.

Like, the only song I remember really liking his voice in was Remember You, which imo is still their best song to date. And now that I just went to listen to it again, I'm really wondering why they haven't really utilized Jackson's singing voice much either, because it's freaking beautiful.

it's almost a little funny because the last time got7 made a comeback with a holiday song was when they promoted confession song and even back then, i found it a little ??? at how many parts yugyeom and jinyoung got :o they sang pretty much the entire first half of the song and all jb and youngjae got was the repetitive "i love you baby i love you" in the chorus lmao
