idk how many times i've heard stories in my city of men stalking women at night (we have a... big problem with aggressive assholes who decide you're suddenly their friend and you should TALK TO THEM RIGHT NOW even as they act like they're about to attack you at any moment) the woman finds a police officer and the dude REFUSES to do anything. But for a lot of female artists, the composers/producers/execs are men, so even if you support a female singer, a lot of money still goes to men... like especially in kpop, even if you support a female idol group, most of the money ends up in hands of men...

Most female idols are still pressured into not expressing themselves when it comes to feminist subjects but maybe trying to support ones that have lost male fans after showing feminist sentiments (Irene with her book, Naeun with her phone case, Suzy/everyone who backed the girl that came out against that photo studio) or support feminist causes openly (Luna promoted one that provided period products to poor women I think) can also be an act of resistance because it will not only show that men don't have the power to negatively impact someone's career, but that feminism and female positive sentiments actually SELL, and companies will have no choice but to bend to that when they see it happen.

I think I read it in the NB comments section but if you can't help the tag trend on twitter or sign the Blue House petition, you can contact the Korean Embassy in your country and let them know that you will no longer be travelling to Korea because it seems to be unsafe for women and cite this incidence. It may help in getting these women justice.

misogyny is so rampant in korea both in a micro and a macro level and the amount of men who just cannot wrap their minds around why we need feminism is astounding.
i’ve met a lot of men living in seoul who, even when i break down blatant things like stalking, molka, abusive language (just today an old man started cussing me out and calling me a crazy bitch in the elevator because the elevator stopped at one extra floor!) to the less obvious things like power play in work situations (like my old male coworkers not believing me when i relay requests from our boss). like, i get that there is a very vocal “angry” feminist movement in korea rn but those women are TINY minority, and i try to explain to all the men i meet that this anger is the result of years of aggression coming to a boiling point... but most men just don’t get it.
being a foreign woman in korea means i get a pass for being a feminist a lot of the time, because they kind of expected it from foreigners. but the absolute bullshit my feminist korean friends (male and female) but up with is insane.

I don't know what to say, this makes me so angry and upset. These men should not be allowed to exist. I have so much admiration for the women in Korea (or anywhere really) who aren't letting this push them down into silence and are trying to find ways to spread awareness and get justice for the escalating acts of what are already way too many shitty men when they can no longer count on the law to protect them - the idea that we can count on eachother as women brings hope and will perhaps bring more awareness to other women who don't yet realise how bad the situation is.

That financial boycott of men @lizanka23 suggested is actually a pretty good idea. It's true that you can't avoid spending money on them entirely but we've seen how effective speaking with your wallet can be and as women we can make an effort to spend our coins on women and female-owned businesses and initiatives as much as possible. Social mobility, financial resources, access to women and children - strip men of everything until they man up and do better tbh.
