Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, let’s see who was on top for the 2nd week of November, 2008. The top three have already been posted before, so we’ll check out some live stages this time.


#3 Rain “Rainism”
I never think of this era first when I think of him, but when I watch these live performances and everything comes rushing back to me and I’m reminded that it’s so good! And he was really feeling himself in these live stages lol.

#2 Kim Jong Kook “Today More Than Yesterday”
Oh the fan chants! I always love it when there’s loud fan chants for ballads lol. I remember his solo songs doing really well back then. This was a single off of his comeback album after his military service ended. Wikipedia also tells me that this was also around the time he joined Family Outing. Ahhhh Family Outing, so fun!

#1 Big Bang “Sunset Glow”
This time around I wanted a more recent live stage, but unfortunately all of the videos from the 0 to 10 shows were taken down. All these years later and Top still does the choreo lol! They promoted this for a while, the song was in the top ten for months. Anyways here’s a stage from 10 years ago. And now 4/5 are gone and the last one is enlisting soon enough. And the little one is married…MARRIED! 10 years just flew by so fast. This is my most favorite Big Bang song and when I fell in love so I’ve got a lot of feelings okay lol.

#4 Brown Eyed Girls “My Style”
This is a track off of their mini of the same name. And here’s another group that I miss. They look so freaking cute. I know I’ve seen this MV before, but I think I get the song mixed up with another one.

#9 Baek Chan featuring Lee Soo Young “What Love Is”
Baek Chan from 8eight teams up with solo singer Lee Soo Young for a track off of his solo album. I don’t know how to feel about this MV. I think some parts are really pretty, but some parts I find so cringe. I don’t like where they are singing to each other lol. They both sound good though, but I’m not really into the song.

I think "My style" is a remake of "L.O.V.E."? I love the latter more but I don't mind that they recycled their own stuff. Early BEG was just so so good <3

Rain tho, like damn. Rainism is so damn good...
I wish we had someone in this era who was like Rain, so far no one can fill his shoes. Instead, all kpop peeps are kinda.. kiddish? Even the ones in their 20s. I guess that's the image that sells right now, it's weird. Like no one has the vibe or aura or Rain, not even close (and that body, lmfao).

i was watching 2PM's heartbeat the other day and the youngest (chansung and junho) were 19 when they released that song, but they looked way more mature. even taecyeon was only 21 back then.

And another song in a similar vein, Mirotic by tvxq, they were only like 20-22. They had such a mature vibe that even in idols who do 'sexy' songs now, lack.

Omg, yes. When I found out that they were that young during Mirotic, I was seriously in shock. They looked like MEN. Looking at the idols now who are the same age....there is no comparison.

I was hoping Taemin would have achieved something similar because he has that aura if not the body but Korea being so conservative don’t help that cause.

agreed, boyish/childish seems to be the trend
2PM did a good job being really mature though and i guess lately monsta x is trying to fill their shoes and ngl, they look beasty and super mature, just how i love it

but i guess kinda skinny metro is the trend in korea now? personally i love men idk, mature lol but then again i'm going near my 30s but okay

Haha, yes to Monsta X, they are my fav group. :3 But... even so, their two most 'beastly' members Wonho and Shownu are kinda... subdued, like Shownu gets very quiet and shy (which is one of the reasons I love him, I wouldn't want him to be more like Rain or anything and he has come a long way since debut) so he lacks that confident, suave vibe of Rain. And Wonho tends to get, quiet and moody and seems to lack a lot of confidence in himself sadly... Like I almost think he has muscle dysmorphia, going by what Kihyun was saying in that recent Idol Radio where he works out like crazy foregoing sleep and what not, like even his members are worried. :/ And he also sorta lacks the proportions of Rain in height, lol. Idk, they just don't have that confident, adult, mature vibe of Rain, their bodies might be 'beastly' but they don't got that vibe - I wouldn't want them to have it, I like how they are, but I wish there was someone like Rain... xD

yeah i totally agree with you! it was pure physical what i meant
on stage they seem confident but i noticed when they won recently that they indeed are very very insecure and shy but i love that contrast, i like that

yeah body dysmophia is a real thing even for men and i like how you point that out, having battled an ED for many years now (going on/off) it's a huge struggle and people often think about it as a joke but when you look in the mirror it's honestly what you see and i also think that especially Wonho is struggling a lot like you said
i even wondered if he's taking some kind of illegal supplements i mean who knows but if Kihyun says he's working out so much it worries everybody, why are they not providing help, an eating disorder comes in many shapes and sizes ah it makes me sad, i hope he's okay :(
i like kihyun a lot as well though, he may not be big like shownu and wonho but he has a really good body

Hope your doing alright now. EDs are especially tough since you can't escape from food.

Wonho's situation is worrying but I doubt he'll get any real help since it's intertwined with mental health and we all know how Korea treats that sort of thing, tho one can hope. At least his members have recognized there is a problem...

thanks, it's always a bit of an on/off thing for me - recently i decided to just go with the waves and i'm practicing self-compassion and meditation and that's helping me, it's not going away but it helps me deal with it a lot better and it takes some of the pressure off. it's not really the food that's the problem with an ED, though, the whole food thing is just a symptom

true, it's sad that in korea it's such a taboo, where i come from it's even looked at as a joke like "just eat" or "stop exercising so much" or "just like yourself" lol if it's that easy than there were no mental health problems
but i'm glad his members are noticing, i hope they can at least stand by his side and help him out, even if it's just some comfort or recognition, it's more than most people get tbh

I always think about this whenever people compare Ariana Grande to Mariah. She looks like a child! whereas Mariah looked so mature even at debut. I wonder if there's actually some basis to it, as in people prefer younger looking stars these days, or the perception is all in my head ie celebs are just starting to look younger to me as I'm growing older lol

...but yes I agree I wish there are more kpop stars like Rain!

Rainism.. iconic
