Choreographer Lia Kim picks Twice's Momo as most talented idol dancer

Lia Kim appeared on MBC’s “Idol Radio” on October 28 to talk about a wide variety of topics including her work as a K-pop choreographer and which K-pop idol she thinks is the best dancer.

Lia Kim is a popular choreographer who is behind many memorable dance routines for songs such as Sunmi’s “Gashina,” TWICE’s “TT,” and I.O.I’s “Very Very Very.”

When asked to choose the idol she believes is the best dancer, Lia Kim picked TWICE’s Momo and didn’t hold back her praise. She said, “TWICE’s Momo is like a dancer sent down from the gods. She’s really good. Not even a sponge can describe what Momo is like, she’s able to start dancing right after she watches a routine. She’s able to recreate a choreography with very little explanation. She’s even able to take a routine and add her own charms and quirks to upgrade it to the next level.”

The choreographer also revealed that she doesn’t receive copyright fees for her work and explained that she instead receives an upfront payment from the agency she’s working with. She added, “I think I’m probably the highest-paid choreographer in Korea. And I really have to thank Sunmi for that. I think I also benefitted greatly from TWICE, who I’m so proud of and who are working so hard.”

Finally, Lia Kim shared some advice for young teenagers who love to dance and dream of becoming a choreographer like her. She said, “When I watch young people dancing these days, I feel like they’re on another level than our generation. It isn’t easy to succeed in the world of dancing, but what I want to tell them is to be strong and resilient.”

It's sad because the girls don't seem really thrilled about their cute concept a lot either. They basically became the next GG. Hyoyeon suffered the same thing and wasn't particularly with the concept for a while. :|

I definitely agree that Momo is one of the best in her generation. there are few who are in the same league, considering most groups don't have more than 1 good dancer these days.

idk about females, but for males I would say Taemin? J-hope as well cause he can freestyle so well on the spot which idk if Taemin is good at that or not.

As for Momo, why can't Twice give us a concept that shows this.

Personally, I haven't ever felt wowed by Momo.Her solo in Likey was so hyped up but it seemed flail-y to me. She definitely is the best in Twice but when she did the collab stage at the Gayos, I found my eye drawn more to Seulgi and Chungha.

For newgen male dancers Q from The Boyz and NCT Ten are really impressive to me

Her predebut dance videos back when she was in Japan are amazing. She’s a great dancer but I don’t think freestyling/ choreographing is for her. That being said if you give the girl a routine she’ll give you what you asked for and then some.

She's definitely the best (female) dancer in her generation, I can't think of another group where the main dancer comes close to her. But dreamcatcher is a good group where no one sticks out for their weak dancing.

A few members of Twice have. But it’s usually only for their bside tracks and it’s usually a point or two that’s actually incorporated into the finished choreography. So it’s more like fan service than anything else. Same with the songs they write lyrics for and compose (they have more freedom and credit with those but then again other than us fans whose really checking for their bsides). I did like Eye Eye Eyes though.

i don't remember any male idol dancers lmao (even though i'm sure i like some) but my favourite female idol dancer is clc Seungyeon. She's tragically underrated. I know nothing about technique but the energy she has is incredible.

I don't really like Momo's dancing. It bores me, there's no life in it in my opinion. Same goes for BP's Lisa. I watch them and I just don't care.

I agree though Momo is a great dancer, I think DTNA helped her showcase more of her ability on stage and I watched a lot of performances to see her specifically

And of course my all time fav is BoA. Seulgi is great too but I think I’d like her more on her own, it’s getting harder to watch RV performances and noticing how they’re pretty messy and out of sync

For girls Seulgi makes any choreo work even Power Up. That’s talent lol gi-dles soojin I want to see so much more of.

Dally is prob my favourite female routine of the year so gotta mention Hyolyn.

For guys: Hoya rly impressed me on Dancing High as both a dancer and a choreographer! And Vixx N as well. Taemin obviously is one of the best and him being on why not? The dancer was cool to see how he learns choreo. Exo Kai is great too but idt he’s fully been able to show the scope of his dancing ability. I’d love to see him do more lyrical stuff like taemin’s Flame Of Love.

We need another season of Hit The Stage tbh
