Jihyo's costume was...to say it mildly...in poor taste. ONCEs are saying that she wanted to be Princess Mononoke, but the stylists gave her this stereotypical Native American costume instead :/
EDIT: This was debunked, she introduced herself as "Indian Jihyo" and even did a "war cry" (00:25s).

Whose costume did you like best Omona? I'm calling Chaeyoung Unni from now on.

I shook my head the moment I saw Jihyo. Speaking of the topic, this is the first Halloween I didn’t see anyone dressed up as a Native American for Halloween when I went clubbing. I want to positive and say some progress is being made or I guess more cynically view it as its being saved for music festivals instead or it just wasn’t popular this year

But overall these costumes are pretty cool, I’m glad they went all out with it (minus a few), like I couldn’t recognize Dahyun at first so that was pretty cool

Some of these are amazing (Jeongyeon/Mina/Dahyun especially, Tzuyu would be great too if the make-up was done on her neck) and then... Jihyo... i saw someone on twitter arguing that jihyo shouldn't be held responsible for this because there's a lot less awareness of appropriation and racism in korea. but even if that's true, the only way to get this shit to stop is by making a big deal out of it and demanding apologies from all parties involved. we can't keep making excuses for idols. they're public figures and they should be more informed and careful than the average citizen.

I do think it's extra complicated in cases like these because native americans aren't part of Jihyo's ancestry or her history. It wasn't her people that took their land and continues to exploit them. Not that it makes it okay, but I don't think it's quite as damning as when a person from Canada or America (especially a white person, the main oppressors) were to wear the outfit. But, idk, I'm not native american, so it's not like I can really speak about it.

Are people really that ignorant about the world's history? What are schools teaching these people? I know education is different everywhere and privilege also determines the kind of education you get but.. Idk, I'm just really always shocked as how people don't know world history in general, like at least the most important parts. Colonization has been a huge part of history pretty much everywhere, you'd think people would know more about these things.

Mina and Dahyun's are legit scary. I like Nayeon, Jeongyeon, and Tzuyu ones best. and it was cute that Jeongyeon took off the 'hood' halfway performing because she just couldn't perform properly with it.

not a fan of suicide squad joker (or even the overhyped Joker/Harley Quinn trope) though, but Chae did a good cosplay I suppose.
