Hoon shared on social media today that his family member (elementary student) got beaten by a classmate and is currently in ICU and unconscious. If he wakes up, he will likely stay at the mental age of a 3-4 year old. His band member Eli translated the message and re-posted it on his Instagram.

Our member Hoon recently uploaded a messege. Alot of you are probably confused as to what it means so I've translated. •
There is currently a child unconscious and hospitalized due to bullying by a classmate at Mokpo Seoha Elementary School in Jeonnam Province. If he returns conciousness he will remain at a mental state of a 3-4 year old. The child who is in the hospital is a family member of mine and I am so angry and upset because I was told that the parents of the bully were standing outside the hospital room laughing and joking around. Currently my family is not recieving any comfort because this problem cannot be investigated by authorities due to it being between minors. How ridiculous.
I do not know what to do. I just pray that he regains conciousness...
Reading this and hearing about others being brutally abused on the news do to bullying, and not recieving any punishment because they are minors makes me wonder if I can send my children to school. Not knowing if our children will be safe in general, is the scariest feeling. But at school???? A place to make friends and learn...... some things need to change.....

Edit: Please sign this petition if you can.

Damn, that's really scary. I understand not wanting to put a child in prison because kids don't always understand their actions, but they can still be held responsible. The kid needs help and should be expelled and placed into a special school or treatment center. That child should not be allowed near other students and kids. The parents should be financially responsible and possibly investigated by Korea's version of CPS. The school should be investigated and held responsible for allowing such an incident to happen on school grounds. Why was no one watching the kids? Why wasn't someone able to find out and get there in time? I hope Hoon's relative pulls through, and I pray for his family that they might find some peace and solace and justice.

exactly. There are steps between "nothing" and sentenced to a criminal facility (juvenile detention).

That is horrifying. It’s clear that the parents of the bully completely lack any sort of empathy. If you fail to instil empathy or even basic decency in your child, then you’ve completely failed as a parent. And if the child won’t be held accountable for his horrific actions, the parents need to be.

Idk how it is in SK, but in the US even children can be held criminally responsible for assaults esp if they have a history of violent behavior. Even kids with impairments can be held responsible to a certain degree. & if the student beat so bad it caused brain injury that will effect his mental state -- def needs to be repercussion for everyone involved

I really hope his relative pulls through and his family gets the support they need.

Wow...I have so many questions. Who put that big a log in an apartment building? And why? How was a 10 year old able to lift(?) and move a log that big over the edge of a balcony?

Even if that kid cant face criminal liability for the murder itself, he (his family) could potentially face a civil lawsuit by the victim because of negligence/wrongful death -- at least in the US thats a possibility

And they can mandate things besides detention, like therapy, etc. etc.

When watching kdramas, I always wonder if those bullying scenes really happens since they seem a bit too much specially in elementary and high school. Apparently, bullying has been so bad in SK =( How are these kids so violent?

kids in korea hit each other all the time. i mean, they play games where the whole point of if it for one person to lose so they can get flicked in the forehead or hit with two fingers on the forearm. and thats when they're just playing around. when they get angry or upset, even just a little bit, its always, always hitting or kicking. its so so normalized.

Well in my household, getting butt whippings was acceptable and kind of kept us from getting into more trouble. I don't personally think physical punishment on kids is where they learn violence from my standpoint only because I didn't grow up hitting people. If its to discipline I think its just a style of parenting but if the parents are punishing kids just to punish them then that's where kids would learn more of that violent behavior and grow up with issues. Its up to parents to explain/talk to their child what is right and what is wrong.

To me, a spanking is entirely different than beating your child. I don't think the occasional spanking is wrong but I know that not everyone thinks that.

Korea's bullying problem is 100x ooc they get extremly physical. So much so that the bullies need a psych eval, imo. It is all rooted in something.
This is the next social issue they need to take to the streets.
Poor baby, this is the end result what else did he go through?
Heartbreaking.
