People talk shit about the post-IOI groups because they didn't reach the same fame as IOI but idk I think having the 8th highest physical sales for a girl group is pretty good, even if it's a small percentage of the overall market, especially considering they're the second youngest group in that ranking. Weki Meki had the highest physicals for a girl group debut last year too.

twice being first is not surprising but blackpink is really close to having the most sold album on hanteo and onces will throw a fit when that happens. although i don't really know the difference between hanteo and gaon

i love twice but they're one of those groups whose gaon sales are always very inflated. they're usually at least twice as high as their hanteo sales, often almost 3x as high which makes me laugh. if you compared hanteo sales, the gap between them and other girl groups wouldn't be as big :x not that they aren't a wall, especially if you count their jpn sales which are insane for a kpop group nowadays.

idt it counts japanese releases. Gaon rn doesn't list the year to date total for Dance The Night Away but if it sold as much as wiki says Twice is doing double the numbers of BP and RV (w/RVs being combined from their jan and summer comebacks).

but aren't the numbers on the chart the total album sales? what is love and summer nights together haven't even sold 700k yet. meanwhile their latest two japanese singles sold about 700k which would bring the total to around 1,3M.

my interpretation with it being GAON numbers is that it's total number of physicals shipped and bought by retailers of all GG's so far this year. With how popular twice are them having 56% of the total gg albums sold to retailers fit with the numbers on gaon compared with the other acts.

but twice's gaon sales this year aren't even close to 1,3M? the chart also only counts 2018 releases.

candy pop (oricon), wake me up (oricon), what is love (gaon) and summer nights (gaon) together sold around 1,3M copies (i counted 1,339,897 instead of 1,339,636 but it's still undeniably the total of those four albums combined).

the perfect red velvet: 99,403 (gaon)
summer magic: 155,247 (gaon)
#cookiejar: 31,392 (oricon)
=286,042 aka the exact number on the chart, and again, both gaon AND oricon sales.

the chart counts gaon sales for korean releases and oricon sales for japanese releases (oricon sales for korean releases count towards gaon).
