This buffet in Korea charges you for the time you spend eating

How much time does it take for you to finish a plateful of food? You wouldn’t have bothered to time your meal, but at this buffet restaurant in Seoul, Korea, you might want to.

ON Restaurant, located near the busy Hongdae Street, must be the hottest buffet right now in Korea. Even before the opening hours, which is from 6 PM to 9 PM, lines are formed in front of the restaurant by people willing to wait for hours.



Once you’re successfully seated, you will be given a stopwatch. The random gadget might leave you puzzled, but it will come handy once you start eating, as you will be charged for the seconds you spend on eating, for the rate of 1.98 KRW (approximately 0.002 USD) per second.

With the rate applied, you will be paying 3,565 KRW for a 30-minute meal and 7,130 KRW for an hour. For the party of 6 or more, you will be charged a group rate.

Operated by the South Korean telecommunication company KT Corporation, ON Restaurant is actually a promotional pop-up buffet opening only for a short amount of time. In order to promote their international roaming rate, the telecommunication company opened a buffet that charges people the same rate as the roaming rate.



The buffet’s rotating menu, too, implies the countries counties the 1.98/sec rate applies. Each day, the buffet serves different main dishes – Steak on Tuesday, Salmon Sashimi on Wednesday, Bahn Mi on Thursday, Dim Sum on Friday, Shashlik on Saturday, and Khao Phat on Sunday – introducing six of the counties the international roaming rate applies.

ON Restaurant’s first location will be open until September 20.

I'll show up for breakfast and park my ass there until they roll out the prime rib at 4pm. Kidding, that's my mom. Personally, I get full pretty fast so I pace myself. I hardly ever finish a meal out, so I eat half there and take the rest home. At buffets i take little breaks in between plates lol.

I don't eat much, I really go for it at buffets but I'm easily done in an hour (and maybe a half). My brothers eat like hoovers and they're done in a similar timeframe.

This is a really cool idea actually as far as promotions go. It's slightly misleading as it's not a traditional buffet and it's not time limited, but it's easy to see if people are not into it

I get full by eating for 20 min. straight. Doesn't matter what kind of food, how much food, how quickly I stuff my face. It almost always takes exactly 20 min for me to feel content and not want to keep eating. This sounds perfect to me tbh lol. I usually only manage to finish 1 full entree plate at buffets anyway.

lol that's the amount of time it takes for (general) your stomach to get the signals that it's got food in it. It's why people are told to eat slowly especially if they are trying to lose weight. You're a lot less likely to overeat because you'll feel full either way. Scarfing food almost guarantees you'll overeat because it takes a bit for your stomach to catch up!

all the buffet's ive been to have been like $30 and i'm usually done eating in like 15 minutes so it's never worth it
