On September 5, News1 reported that police had caught singer Han Dong Geun driving under the influence of alcohol earlier this summer.
The incident took place on July 30 at 11 p.m. KST in the Bangbae-dong neighborhood in Seoul. When caught by the police, Han Dong Geun admitted to the offence and cooperated with further inquiries that took place on September 5.
Subsequently, Han Dong Geun’s agency, Pledis Entertainment, released a full statement.
“Hello, this is Pledis Entertainment. We sincerely apologize on behalf of our artist regarding his DUI incident. Han Dong Geun is reflecting deeply on what he has done wrong and will be halting all activities to take time for this self-reflection. He plans to cooperate with all further inquiries in the police investigation.
“We are also responsible for not managing our artist properly and allowing this incident to occur. We apologize to the fans, who have been concerned and upset by this news, and we will work on giving regular education about drunk driving and its dangers to all our artists at the agency.
“Once again, we bow our heads to say that we are sorry. Thank you.”
Han Dong Geun debuted in 2014 and first rose to prominence in the music industry with the song “Making a New Ending for this Story.”

Date: 2018-09-05 07:34 am (UTC)i remember this one time, i was at dinner with my co-workers & boss. i knew alcohol was being served. i'm not a drinker due to religious reasons, never touched and never will drink one even if under pressure - which happened to me. my boss wanted (sorry, pressured) me to drink because it will "create a better atmosphere". i politely refused, saying that i was driving my friend home (which was a lie, i don't have a license). you know what he said to me? "hey, you can drink some and drive home afterwards" EXCUSE ME? i straight up dragged myself out, and the next day, i got a message from my friend saying that i got fired .. all because i said no to a senior who was handing out drinks like it's candy. i don't regret it at all.
moral of this rant/story: drinking is sadly embedded in the korean culture

how horrible you got fired, but i do get it, personally i don't drink either and even here in europe i tend to get bullied and like 'oh 1 drink won't hurt' etc. but i just don't want it. my friends are totally fine with it, but i did experience it with work get togethers as well, i wish people would respect it
it bothers me that korea (and japan as well) has such a strong drinking culture, a lot of them are addicts i swear

Date: 2018-09-06 11:17 pm (UTC)it wasn't an easy thing to do, especially since korea puts hierarchy to such an extremely high pedestal. refusing something like alcohol by a senior is looked down upon because in their eyes, you're looking down on them. in my case, i wasn't looking down on my boss, rather i said no because a) i can't drink due to religious reasons & b) even if i did take that drink, i don't know how to handle myself when drinking. just like you have to be a responsible driver on the road, you have to be a responsible drinker as well. know your drinking limit, know when enough is enough. sadly, people can't handle a certain amount whether they got pressured by their peers or themselves.
my friend recently stopped daily drinking (she now drinks 1-2 times a week) because her liver is getting worst. she's now working out, and not relying on alcohol as a crunch or a way to have fun. i'm proud of her to be honest.

Date: 2018-09-05 08:51 pm (UTC)while in korea as an intern, i did have some awkward situations (including with co-workers) about drinking. it really is embedded in the culture. scary.

Date: 2018-09-06 11:23 pm (UTC)it's horrifying how embedded korea, japan, and other first-world countries are when it comes to alcohol and how addicting it can be for some when it comes to relying on alcohol for socializing. just be a responsible drinker is all i'm asking and don't pressure or stigmatize people who don't want to drink.

Date: 2018-09-06 07:17 pm (UTC)he loved drinking and was always down to drink until the crack of dawn with his coworkers, but he was happily married and his wife was pregnant, so he would always turn down the prostitutes his coworkers would try to buy for him.
because of that he was ostracized in the company for not being a "team player" and ended up having to quit because they pulled all his projects and he basically couldn't do any work because of it.
